Nice figure drawings.
The main thing you need to look out for is proportion; make sure you get your drawing down right before you consider rendering in the values.

Thanks Treb, great advice. I tend to rush on the construction which is a nasty habit, and skip to the juicy parts of rendering. I will continue to work on it. Which drawing shows that flaw? Or is it all of them?

The male figure's leg looks a little on the long side and in the quck sketch I think you shortened the legs on the female near the bottom to get her legs to fit on the page. Those are pretty common habits. Lots of potential in those drawings though. Make sure you get tracings from the instructors. They'll be indispensable in tracking your progress dialing in on weaknesses. I would also say that you need to remember the figure is made up of large masses and concentrate on your lay-in. It sounds so simple, but it can be a while before you intuitively utitilize that knowledge. Once you do, your rendering will improve immensely and you can make the form read quicker and with less effort.

MadSamoan - Sounds like crits from one of my instructors at the Watts Atelier. I have seen your comments about the Atelier on different posts, and saw your comments to R. Lemen on the sijin forums. The guys who teach there are amazing. Good advice though, and thanks for saying "potential" it feels good knowing that my work is starting to take shape. I'm re-enrolling in the fall. How long were you going to the atelier?

I went there for about a year and I'm currently at the California Art Institute. The training's the same, but focused towards fine art.
