Topic: Biological/Chemical Defense for Law Enforcement
Background: Near future. Biological and chemical attacks are becoming more prevalent. Law enforcement units are currently ill equipped if an attack goes off. While gas masks give a certain amount of defense against gases or air-born pathogens, they are inadequate against the new range of weapons being used. They need to upgrade, and quickly.
Brief:
1. Design a product or system that protects individual law enforcement people from biological or chemical attacks.
2. Full coverage is the priority.
3. It should be able to take the sort of wear expected in law enforcement.
Deadline: Saturday 16th December

think of it as a self-contained-hazerdous-material-shower... or a SCHMS.... or something....
body armor with a chemical tank on back that, when activated, surrounds the wearer in a cloud of chemicals similar to an emergency hazmat shower. facemask and goggles protect wearer from fumes.

description coming soon.
DESCRIPTION: P.O.D. personal offensive defense...er sumthin like that. P.O.D is a completely sealed defense from all outside nuclear chemical and biological threats. it features to twin hyper skiff engines to propel it incredibly fast and one heavy duty tread for tearing through any terrain. inside are a cushy chair and a java machine to help you forget the hellish world around you :D.
p.s. very easy to run over people.

Haha, nkabuto, cute design ;p When I saw what you said about the wings it made me chuckle a bit ;)
The IDW doesnt seem to have a lot of activity D:
Im not really use to drawing hightechy people/things, so this this will be awesome practice!

Bit of an early WIP
nkabuto - looks like we have both had similar ideas on how to approach the idea.
abediah - I am liking the almost 50's retro look that you seem to be going to with your design.
poop on a stick - I hoped to see some designs that were not just a suit (although I am guilty of just that). Are you thinking to expand 'law-enforcement' abilities of the design?
AyaXiac - looks like a properly resilient design.
mackerman - I'll like the idea of an active defence that allows for cleaning of an area.
----------------------------------------------------
Update - Final Design
Finished, I would like to have redrawn this from a different angle and perhaps brought out the protective elements some more but I did not have the time.

giving this a try. i'm thinking more of a kevlar-canvas mesh suit that can be easily carried in the car, and easily put on....we'll see if i can keep up.

I've been looking for a site like this. I love the contests, they are exactly what I've been looking for. I'm a little late on this one, but count me in for future contests... especially the industrial design ones. I have a few sketches I'll get posted before the deadline, but might not have time for a finished piece this round. :vodkamachine:

i stayd up all night to make this..im very week in making armor thats y i wanted to do this and thats y it took so much time n brain scratchin.so here it is KM''S.W.A.T.
this armor has been created for stealth operations of KM ''SWAT's orange wing, with chest and back plating created of such components that proved high resilience as well as serving as tanks for oxygen.with its share of armor i also used a previous IDW winning entry the shield you see here and modified it a bit making quicker to use against medium level attacks.along with all this this suit has bin provided with jump packs(shown operating in side view) which gives the user the ability to jump distances.i hope you like it.:D

what happened to "near future"?
i'll be throwing in soon :D

ok, heres my stab at it. didn't wanna make him too out there thought. i gave him complete body coverage with a standard o2 scrubber, but if things get really hairy he has a re-breather to provide a dedicated oxygen line.

Final design added (above).
Legato - I see what you mean but I suppose it can come down to where one would consider near future to be the next year or the next 20 years. Whilst far-future would suggest, perhaps, areas of robotics, cyborgs and custom law-enforcement organisms.

Whoops - just found this thread and started something, too bad it's already past the deadline. Guess it goes in the sketchbook if I can't finish it before the vote - looking good so far guys, I'd like to see more of these finished. :)

MADE IT.. barely.

Sgt. Kopf hurdled over the concrete barrier, desperately trying to escape the toxic cloud behind him. The fumes thickened the air and scorched his lungs. In mid flight above the short wall, he flicked on his guardian angel: his N-MAS. "Noxious-Material Atomizer Suit.." he thought. "This should be interesting." A blue cloud burst from his breastplate, blanketing Kopf in a cool mist of counter-chemicals and nano robots. The fire leaving his lungs, he coughed, "chalk one up for modern technology."

Sorry to sneak in with such a late entry. A freak windstorm knocked out our power last thursday. Partial power was restored on monday, but I hear some folkes up here will have to wait 3 more weeks before they're up and running again :jawdrop:
