Howdy. This is a wip of my final for my intro to zbrush class. We had to do a full figure sculpt of a humanoid form, and I chose to do Hellboy. It's still very much a wip, and the stone hand is just a place holder for now. Base mesh was done in Maya 7 all the sculpting was done in zbrush. Any comments or crits are are greatly appreciated.

i think that are some proportion issues, but of course u know that.

Captain Fade: Thanks! I plan on modeling the Samaritan and his belt hopefully over the holiday break. I got a bunch of finals and can't spend as much time as I'd like to on this one at the moment, but it will happen.

Limion: I'll tone down the tail thickness to get a happy medium between the comic, movie, and the toy, all of which I've been using for reference, as well as my own doodles (a bit too cartoony, but some aspects of it I do like).

Raul-Reznek: I am playing with proportions, but I'm trying to keep them similar to Mignola's original design ( in seed of destruction and wake the devil). Here's an image that I found that kind of sums up his anatomy in the comics. More gorilla-esque with a bigger torso, which I'm kind of leaning towards.

And yeah, the elbow and back need way more attention (as does everything else). Those are next on the list. Thanks.

jega74: Thanks! I'm glad you like the body, I hate it when Hellboy is made to look like a Mr. Olympia bodybuilder. As far as textures, I hope to ge around to that during the winter break from school. Thanks for the words of encouragement!

When you get around to texturing it, this link might help you with the head, I saw it some time ago, http://www.horribledeath.com/hellboy_tut.htm, hope it helps.

Yo, John from Int Fig here.

Great job with the model man! I especially like the detail parts in the temporal area and the hand. Good job maintaining a sense of balance to the character, especially since his huge upper body is supported by such dinky legs. Although, I bet he wouldn't make a good drunk... Also, kudos to taking a different spin to the character, rather than just recreating the movie version.

As for the tail, I think the main reason some may see its thickness as a problem is because for such a large mass, it is rather devoid of any anatomical forms. While I'm not too familiar with the comic, so I'm not sure if it goes against his character or not, I think the tail would benefit from some subtle signs of muscle mass or bone structure. Or it could be as simple as adding some width variation, as it reads pretty well from every angle except from the back.

Anyways, back to finals. Ugh...

Awesome sculpting man, looks fantastic! The tail bugged me a bit as well, but thats already been addressed. Absolutely loving what you did with such a low poly mesh. <3

This is friggen cool! When I first saw the top one (the full frontal) I thought his tail was his..........umm...........penis, I was like.........Hmmmmm.....I guess it makes sense it would be so big since his right hand is made of stone (You know what I mean :P ) ANyway, now I know it is his tail..........LOL

Here's what I handed in for the final. It meets the requirements of the class for now, but I'm definately going to work on it over the winter break (details, accesories, rigged) so I still consider it a wip. Among the things I adjusted were the arch of the diaphram, the teres major/minor and tricep area, a better modeled Right Hand of Doom, and tiny tweaks. Thanks very much for the kind words and the critiques, and I'll post more once I unwind a bit from finals.

Sorry for the 3/4 views, but I wanted to avoid any "misinterpretations" of forms:x .
