Pantone!

that is exellent! I have just a little thing with the balance of the pic, his right shoulder feels wrong, maybee if you faded it it an different more open way the genereal composition would be better. it is such an small thing, but I hope you understand what I mean.
Not much criticism, just praise.

I think I agree with RM on the right-side shoulder. I kinda wanted to see more of it, so that it would form more of a boundary to balance out the openness of the left side.

Otherwise, it's great work, especially for markers. Really great control of the colors and the transitions.

Excellent job on both pieces... I've just got 1 crit asides from the stuff mentioned above, there's a line across the guy's forehead which is too light so it kinda sticks out. Instead you could work more shades into the edges of it so it doesn't stick out as much. Am I making any sense ? :) EDIT: Looking at it, it could just be me :) but maybe you see it too

oh, btw is it Gavin Rossdale?

hey kortez..i'm not sure about who the 1st one is..i got him out from a magazine though..hmm..it makes sense to me..yeah the tone on the muscles of the forehead was alittle too obvious..its too sudden though..thanx for pointing it out:)

Love these two portraits. I still can't see that second one you posted. These are really inspiring. Makes me want to get my markers out again. They are one of my favorite mediums. I love seeing color illustrations in marker instead of the gray tone drawings I see a lot in concept art. I think the color here is very lovely. And you pick really good models too. :hearts: Great likeness of Keanu.

One question, what kind of paper are you using?

Wow, these are all very strong work. I like the Keanu Reeves piece the best actually because of the flow between the fore and background. There is also quite a bit of emotion in that piece as well which adds some allure to the piece. Very good work, especially in a medium with little margin for error.

Still boggles my mind on how you pull this of with pantone, but I can see the marker lines and I'll study them some more...

A Wip would be very interesting since I can't really figure out how you do the highlights. Is it only white virgin paper?

michael see
June 24th, 2003, 11:37 AM
thanx for the complement irate:)still in the learning process though..
hey..thanx R_M..actually for the highlights..i just leave it white..applied cream as the base color..after that..pantones away.yup..done it just in a white piece of 'virgin' A3 size paper:)
i'll post another one tomorrow..its the last piece..thanx again for the kind words guys..~~

Great work! I really like the last one a lot. The way you combine the washes give the portraits lots of energy.

Do you mind sharing your methods? Are you using ink dyes and brush at all, or are you drawing with just the nib of the marker?

michael see
June 25th, 2003, 08:27 PM
hey..thanx alot..i really appreaciatte it..well as i said earlier..i started it off with pencil outline and then markers away..cream on the very 1st layer..which is the base..then comes the pantone..there aren't any ink dye or brush at all..just purely prisma color marker and skin color pantones..as for the brush like strokes..its mainly becoz some of my markers are almost drying out..and thats sorta effects i create out of it..
thanx again for the complement :)

hey these are trully awesome. I would love to work with markers. They are the coolest media but they are so expensive. You really have some talent with this media. I really like the life you put into these pieces and the colors are awesome. Lucky you...if i ever get the cash, im learning hardcore to work with markers..they are sweet. Good Good :)

June 25th, 2003, 10:48 PM

IMPRESSIVE. :whoa:

Though I must say that your marker work (superb, btw) looks much more three-dimensional than your pencil work.
Maybe you need to work some more with the values.

Dunno though. I'm a noob. ;)

Awesome !!

You did a heck of a job with those markers !

...I'll probably sound really stupid ...what's that cream stuff you pur in first ? ...you apply it to the drawing area only...?

June 26th, 2003, 08:21 PM

Do you do any of your marker portraits from life? Or do you just stick with pictures and such?

And if you have the time, a step by step of this process would be amazing..just priceless =)
