Hello everyone. Glad to be posting again.
My wife and I will be at the workshop in SF, we will be doing everything we can to help you guys anyway we can.
She is going to post her itinerary soon, in the meantime, here is what I am going to do in a nutshell, nothing too stressful or anything...:^^:
-Start with a comp of the idea
-DO thumbnails suited for canvas size COMPOSITION LECTURE
-Block in discuss laying in an painting lay in to prep for the paint to come, including fixing the drawing etc.
-Draw in the start and fix it
-ANATOMY LECTURE - In laying in the drawing, we will cover anatomical reference points of importance, discussing the idea of active muscles vs. passive, or muscles at rest.
-DRAPERY LECTURE - Continuing the lay in, I will discuss the properties or laws of folds as I work out the drapery issues of the models.
-RENDERING THE FINISHED DRAWING LECTURE-I will talk about what to do with a drawing for a painting, how far to render it and what that means exactly with regards to a painting, be it an illustration, fine art piece or concept illustration.
-fixing the drawing and talking about that a bit.
COLOR THEORY LECTURE- working out the issues of this canvas, working on variations to describe the differences in the local colors, color of the lights, changing colors for a stronger composition, etc.
Blocking in the Painting- I will approach this with a very alla prima approach since this canvas is going to be very large and I only have 2 days to do it. The finish will not be an academic finish by any means, but bringing the painting to completion will be very academic in its approach.
BRUSH STROKES VS. SIMPLIFYING OBJECTS INTO A BRUSH STROKE OR TWO-what this means is that I will be lecturing on when a painting just gets messy to read, where the brushstrokes have no design to them, or they are not catering to the picture as a whole, but taking it apart stroke by stroke. How can we obtain that Sargent, Frazetta, Jeff Jones, Wyeth quality without overdoing the brushy stuff, losing site of what we are trying to do.
Color Mixing-I will talk extensively about color mixing, palettes, why we choose the colors we choose and keeping the palette organized. I will also talk a lot about the mediums and how they effect your work process
Finish the sucker up in the time I have-and in addition I hope to do several lectures on drawing, composing pictures and whatever else you throw at me. I am there for you…make sure you take total advantage of that.
See you in San Fran…
If you want to overfill your head with information outside of all the amazing information you will be getting at this workshop, Vanessa and I are bringing several treasure chests full of a wealth of great information....see you there its gonna be great!!!
