Nice work dude. The hellboy watercolour and batman pic are really nice, show us more watercolours. :) And that last black and white obsidian pic is awsome.

The dwarf could use a bit more definition if you wanted to spend more time on it, and his right shoulder pad looks like it would stick into his arm if it's shaped like the right one.

Good work, looking forward to seeing more.

I inked a Shiva similar to that years ago and made many changes from the original penciled version which the artist took from a reference he pull from a book to put in a background. I altered the Shiva even more greatly from my changed inked version! improving some poor anatomy, removing and changing the arms, adding more defined facial details, creating a headdress etc.! the Shiva is quite a common image along with the buda.:bounce:

I'd like to see some lifedrawings of yours, you still got some anatomy to work on, but all I see are things from your imagination!

Branch out, do a master study or something, draw some real live people!

I'm currently upping my skills in art and would love to recieve any advice you have to offer.

...So Ill just say it. I like your old work way better, with the exception of that Hellboy everything else leaves me flat. Im glad for you that youve got some savage dragon work....But Ive never been a fan of cloning someones style, but thats just me. It may only be because I knew you for years, but right now your art is telling me youre either bored with it, or too busy for it. Im probably wrong But like I said, I AM a prick.

Ok.... to make a long story short I was at Gen-Con as I am every year, but this year I had printed my Spoof of the wonder twins to sell. as I sat there people would walk by and laugh and point out the piece to others. the best was an older gent whom praised the piece up and down and when I thanked him fer da kind words. He said "you don't understand...I was the voice of Zan!" gome to find out he had voiced Duke frome GI Joe and a plethora of others. as we talked I listened and was in aw that I was talking to fuckin duke from Gi Joe!!! lol well I gave him a print and asked if he'd sign one for me? He ask what form of water should I take? My reply was " Water Dickie!" he laughed and signed the print to Scott wonder twin powers activate form of a water dickie ...Michel Bell! so there is a little story fer ya all!

Hey there, thanks for commenting in my sketch book. I just took a look at your stuff and I think they are awesome. I would have to agree with Alex John's comment on how some of your stuff starts getting a little flat. I would check out some Burne Hogarth on "Dynamic Wrinkles and Drapery" if you hadn't already, that book helped me back in high school.

Yeah, I got sick of the old avatar.
So I made a new one!
You should have seen me when I took that picture.
I only had make-up on one eye, and I darkened my eyebrow... so, I looked pretty goofy.
But, I like how it turned out.
:D

Aww, buddy!
Your new pieces are great!
I am always impressed by your line work.
The shapeshifter is awesome. Love the details on his arm.
And I really like the piece you have showing your process.
I hope someday soon I will be able to great pieces like yours.

Ahh Hah!! I see you commission models for specific drawings and poses. I see..... Did you learn that for Alex Toth?

The poses...... that of Savage Dragon's woman in your F.F. comic and the woman from #57 is the same EXACTLY THE SAME pose !! If i remember correctly, could be wrong the clothes are different and the volume of the head breasts and frame are changed abit but the pose is very very similiar, no it is the same.

Thanks for posting in my SB Mr. James, I see what you mean by working on my line quality after seeing your wonderful drawings. Your 'Dirty Fairies' are a beautiful, sexy bunch there. The only thing I might find odd is that you chose to display the Joker without his psychotic (cliche) grin... but that is your choice as an artist and I found it interesting.

Keep up the fantastic work man... I'll definately keep on trucking on myself.

Nice naughty fairies ( though a bit too muscly for my tastes, I prefer a bit more curvey goodness in the feminin form), and the comic book stuff is great as always. Thanks for the Atomic Blonde step by step, and the Ice queen wip, it's great to see the process.

The only thing I can think to crit is that I feel that some of your coloured work looks a bit flat, like the lighting is too even; I can't tell where the light source is sometimes and I feel like there needs to be more areas in shadow.

January 19th, 2007, 12:13 PM

Huge fan of your B&W pieces. What more can I say?
Don't like any of your Savage Dragon work though, the comic looks dull and the pin-up lacks action or depth. Never mind, I never liked Savage Dragon anyways.

When you do this dripping thing, these spickles... how do you preserve those parts of your drawing that should not have spickles?
(examples: http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o309/sjames21/tsr.jpg ; http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o309/sjames21/shadowrun.jpg ; http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o309/sjames21/71.jpg)

Love your illustrations! Great figure work and inking!

Some things look off to me in the last few images though:
The guy with the two guns with someone coming up behind him- he looks like he is about to blow his own head off, those guns look like they are coming right up under his chin.

The card player...looks great but he only has 4 cards..wondered what game he was playing.

The samurai and monkey- the samurai sword is totally flat to the plane of the viewer, can't see that its tilted at all from the view of the hilt...also his arms are meeting dead center to his chest- straight out from his solar plexus, thats how it looks from the perspective on his sleeves and bracers. All very nice and not a problem, however it all goes together so that the sword looks like it is going right thru his head, its the only place it can be going because its held square to his shoulders. Just a visual illusion to me. But thats the best way I can explain it.

Again, beautiful stuff, I am just being critical because these last few pics are making me go hmmm.

Scott James
January 22nd, 2007, 09:22 PM
tom thanks fer the comments and kind words! the last three were done For AEG when I was a staff artist illustrating 50-75 illos a month!

for the first the description was a man sneekin' up behind a guy who was aware of his presence...and had guns drawn ready to cap his @$$. if the guns were positioned differently the attacker would see them popin' over the sholder! I'm more discusted with the face of the back ground guy!

the card player.....the game is Asshole were you must get rid of all cards!....I don't play cards so that is why there is 4 neither did my editor apparently?!

the last one I have no real excuse....exept fer the amout of pieces and dead line!

again thanks ! :)

OldNewbie thanks and you are probably correct on the hands as stated earlier I was pumpin out a lot O Shit in a short period! :) I wish they all were to the quallity I would personally like! but at times.... time wouldn't allow it I often look at those pieces and wish to redue and improve, but I use those polished turds as reminders of what crap I could produce if time and thoght are not afforded and or give! again thanks!

another piece produced For AEG in that period of hatch in dispatch!

The samurai girl intreges me, seems like a good story. Cowboy looks abit gay, but gay is good now in the 21th cent. Something isn't right on the last picture, the whole posture looks abit stale.

Maybe your trying to hard. Relax and let it go. Throw many little doodles into your sketch book.

Very nice work in here!
I like your inks the most. I don't have a real crit for you, just interest. Is all of this in here for your job or are you doing more personal stuff too?
And are you interested in not comic art as something for you? I would like to see something from you out of your comfort zone. Great work though
I will follow this
Keep this updated

great comic work man, your tone and composition is beautiful as always. Woundmaker is sweet, thought im not too keen on his metal camel toe :). I think you could experiment with bringing some of the colours from your background and blending them with the foreground figures as well to help unify the lighting, but maybe that's not at all the look your going for.

Ooh, and more ladies please :^^:
