Hello everybody,

this is my first conceptart-post.
Very interesting stuff whole over the forum.
Maybe some of you can critisize my
environment-sketches down there. I´m not sure
how to come out of these sketchy thumbnails
to an amazing finished illustration :dur:

I think with these kind of sketches you should
check out composition and proportions of the entire
format you are sketching on - I´ve tried to
fix some nice composoitions in my sketches but
look by yourself.

(first one is just preview picture)

greetings
Kristo Novo

nice stuff here.
looks like the first and second imagres are your strongest. Good use of perspective.
in the other images, there seems to be a need for line weight (thickness) to help bring attention to certain parts of the image. If it is all the same weight, it is harder to perceive depth. (4th image)
Maybe select one of the thumbnails to add color/shading?

My sketchbook is here (http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=71080)

.

I colorised the second sketch in a quick potoshop session.
I think it helps to get more depth into picture.

But keep on critisizing - thx for your attention :^^:

Nice perspective there!
I must agree first two were best in first post,in the third one i think those two columns look like they are little steep (erm dunno about my english)

Like the colored version too tought i sorta like the b/w one better...dont know why.

Good start on coloring. I recommend that you pay careful attention to value when depicting light and shadow. The building on the lower left is casting shadow well, but the other buildings are not? Also, you may want to accentuate lighting on the faces of the buildings in the upper right which are facing the sun. Also, experiment with brushes to let them do the work of detailing the textures for you. Well, thats my 2 cents.

I like the second image a lot. The cracks and detailing really give believability to the scene. Perhaps work on the value range for it to develop the piece further I suggest that you use pure black and pure white sparingly as you develop it.

Welcome aboard!! You have awesome sense of perspective and compostion! Your artistic vision is strong.
Man I can't wait to see these as full color paintings. I usually add small fiqure shapes in the composition to help with the feeling of scale.
Beatiful work. Love to see more. Are you going to take any of the other sketches to paintings?

Hello again,
long time since I´ve added some new stuff.
Here I painted digitaly a kind of outer space/planet scenery.
I think I could go on working on this picture to add more
detail but what do you say?

Yes, could use a little more work. Otherwise, I have to say, it's good to see how you are mastering different points of perspective.

i´m not sure where this is going
my motivation to start painting was to come up
with some robot technoid styles...

till now there are no characters - just environment
...have to be changed :)

I love the post 17. for me, works better without spaceships, or with little ones. these environements are really good man. very technic eye you got, mixed with a great tecnique, with many fluency.

To crit, just can say.. work in your lacks.. as drawing figures.. just need a bit or more work, youre in the right way.

By the time, I guess some star will appear over there:^^:

Hey man- I love your quick sketches. They're great!

:)

I think your digital painting needs practice... here's a suggestion on how to very quickly add some color to those sketches- mainly with gradients.. dont muck up the clean fresh sketches with too much brushy junk- here's an example I painted over your pic

Kristo Novo
November 14th, 2008, 07:23 PM
Ragnar X: realy thank you for taken your time to show me that coloring example.
i think i get the idea with this gradient like coloring... i´m realy overwhelmed about it... helps a lot
i have to try this for myself... fix dark and bright composition

by the way gw concept artwork for me is one of the best in gameindustry
i´m very thankful for your post!

Hi Kristo!

Love the architecture sketches on the first page. Work on lighting and its color system.(Color saturation etc.) Right now I miss some depth and sense of space. Do some ref. work for this case. Great sketchbook. Keep your studies!

December 30th, 2008, 03:37 AM
Hey, i really like your draw-style in the fist sketches. I think the illustration in post 37 could going very good. I already like it. The dynamic is cool but meaby he got a little bit all-too long arms. I think its too disproportionate... Nice - Keep it up.

grüsse nach Deutschland : )

@Schmitz dank dir :) nr 37 hat echt irgendwas aber die anatomie von dem kerl.....

you work good with perspective- maybe do some small sketches from reference's in full color od landscapes..last time i've made e few..- ithink it could help..and of course some anathomy drawings! :)

youve got some really great stuff going here man. I really like your drawing style. The only thing that Id really like to see you do is push your poses. You have some interesting poses going on some of the drawings but ive noticed that there are an aweful lot of them that are just kinda standing looking bad ass. I wanna see something a bit more dynamic and looking bad ass ya know? Either way, great stuff. Very inspirational. :)

Kristo Novo
January 4th, 2009, 02:56 AM
@selfu good advice to work with references... maybe that helps a lot... need to study color and light through nature and references

@Newman101 yea your right... should pushin poses... i´m a lazy guy.. the most time i draw characters in the same pose
