Here's an online newsletter called Art Deadlines List (http://www.xensei.com/users/adl/) that looks useful:

There is a three year scholarship for the animation diploma program, and there are one year scholarships for the illustration program. More to come. * Interested in a career in graphic communications.
* A high school senior or a high school graduate that has not yet started college.

Deadlines are March 1 for High School Students and April 1 for Enrolled College Students.

Each scholarships has its own requirements.
I suggest going to the website of the scholarship you are interested in to learn more about it.

They have a lot of advertising on this one but once you get past the intro pages it's alright. They've also got articles on how to fill out financial aid forms to get the most money, or how to apply if you want to study abroad, on internships, etc etc. :)

Japan Foundation: Artist Fellowship

Applicant must have an affiliation with a Japanese artist or institution and must submit three letters of reference, including one from the Japanese affiliate. Award gives artists and specialists in the arts the opportunity to pursue creative projects in Japan with their Japanese counterparts. Applicant should contact the Japan Foundation New York Office in September.

The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation: Artist Grant

Funds representational or figurative artists working in the early stages of their careers in painting, drawing, printmaking, or sculpture only. Applicants must have started or completed art school training or must demonstrate, through work and future plans, a commitment to making art a lifetime career. Funds may be used for any art-related purpose including study, travel, studio rental, purchase of materials, etc.

Question...see the scholarship im applying for for this school im going to is either all for it or none. Full tuition and fees. now they require me to submite a portfolio preferabbly on a cd. Now im sending it in a cd in and in an envelope, now my brother suggested i get creative with the packaging and my resume. Any input on that?

I say that the most important thing is to be professional. Use high quality paper, have things typed nicely, etc.
It can't hurt to make the packaging more creative--it could help you stand out from the other applicants.
But you also don't want to send something that looks really messy or unprofessional which they might find annoying.

If it were me, I might add a few nice graphic design elements to spruce things up, but not detract. I would use high quality paper and maybe create my own CD envelope that matches my resume. Maybe have a nice label on the CD.
Depends on your personality, I suppose, but those are just my thoughts.

Ask what format they want it in as well. Just because it comes across in a CD, you could do a very nice Powerpoint or Adobe Acrobat presentation as opposed to just a huge jumble to JPEGs or TIFFs of your artwork. Also consider the order in which your images are to appear- a Powerpoint or Acrobat presentation can do that for you.

And the idea that Emily suggested about designing out the entire package is nice too. Design out the jewel case, have an insert, print on the face of the CD itself and make it a solid unified presentation.

Hey Emily great idea for young artist wanting to go to Art school.
I was going to post in the 'my experience' thread, but I thought more people might look in this thread.
My 1st year in college I received a Scholarship for the summer at Academy of Art University in San Francisco. And I just recently saw they do a fall Scholarship when I looked on the Utrecht website for art supplies.. Also if you call The Academy, ask them if they still do a portfolio scholarship in the summer as well. That is how I got mine. It is nice if you just want to try out the school or if you know you are going to go there you will save a handful of money.

I hope this helps some. I felt I learned a lot at the Academy especially in Illustration. As always if you apply yourself, work hard, and ask around for the good teachers you will get your moneys worth.
