The finished items in this thread were all done within the last two years, after an extended hiatus of artistic pursuits. In a lot of ways they are part of an effort to reclaim any talent I may have once possessed.

Some are concepts for comic books. Others animations. Some are simply experiments to see if a certain style will work with the subject... I jokcingly call them pre-concepts.

"Korean Monks" - Style Experiment (Pre-concept for comic)

This is actually one of my older pieces. But it sold recently, so I have the scan uploaded.

Since this thread has been moved to the sketches section, I thought I'd add some sketches and take out all the finished stuff that was "fan-art".

So here's one of the new inclusions:

These are quite cool. Dunno why you haven't got a reply yet.

You need to work on females a bit more.. as they are they look a tad masculine.

Well when you're in the company of as many significantly more talented artists, which is the case with this site, then it takes a lot of talent to be worthy of comments. It's cool, and I accept it as totally understandible that this thread is not getting a lot of replies.

Thanks though for taking time time make a comment... which leads me to:

Interesting comment. It wouldn't suprise me, considering that my preference in real life is for more masculine women...

On the curious side though, can you clarify your comment for me?

Are you noticing specific rendering mistakes that should be corrected in order to have the art look less naive? Or are you just taking issue with an aesthetic (in this case possibly less feminine women) that simply isn't your taste?

If the former... pointers would be more than welcome. I am nothing if not constantly in pursuit of bettering myself as an artist. Also, what specifically makes them "masculine"?

I.E. Sayuri (the school girl) for instance was intended to have a feminine structure, but an undainty pose. So what about her makes her masculine? Her pose or her body. If you say her pose... then great, mission accomplished. If you say her body, then crap on a stick, cause I've failed again and nothing short of self-evisceration is pennance enough.

the dark outline on the lips, and the loose round shape of the lips gives the impression of a little moustachge and goatee beard...perhaps look at your lips shapes...

Alot of these are very neat, but i think most of these are just sketches so i had to move the thread to the sketches section.

Try to stay away from fan art

I wouldn't agree that most of the original images in this thread were sketches. 9 out of 12 were finished works. But since the thread was moved, I took the liberty of adding a new sketch.

Additionally: I Aplogize if there's a prohibition or even taboo toward the fan-art. I mostly posted them because they are the most recent scans I have, and I was hoping to draw little constructive criticism. At any rate everything in this thread is now orignal. I replaced all the fan-art with images of my own.

the first pic looks just great, though her neck seems a bit too long. her left hand seems to be a bit too small too.

Lord Dubu

I see what you mean on her hand, it doesn't quite match the other hand, even with allowance for the fact that in real life hands aren't the exact same size, it's still too small.

The neck is a style decision, as are her unrealisticly long legs. Whether that was a while style decision or not remains to be determined.

Hey, soz.. I should've been more clear what I meant. I don't have much time nowadays, so try to comment on every art I look at which can sometime lead to some comments being a bit vague.

It was mostly the last pic you posted.. with various different females. Especially the one in the top right corner. I can't place it but I'm sure it's to do with the chin and the lips. Lips being too fat and chin being too round.. or something :]

As for the schoolgirl one you mentioned. I think that one is fine. The pose is kinda masculine now that I look at it.. so I guess good job!

Ah, OK. I can see what your getting at. Right, well all those sketches in the yellow area are the progression that brought about the girl in the white bottom right.

She's deliberately thicker than your average idealized female figure, and deliberately so. Actually I'm not sure she quite there yet as a character.

Technically she's scenery though. As she's not a principle in the animation, but one of many people who will fill out what is a rather busy sequence of animation.
