6:1. And I saw that the Lamb had opened one of the seven seals: and I heard one of the four living creatures, as it were the voice of thunder, saying: Come and see.
6:2. And I saw: and behold a white horse, and he that sat on him had a bow, and there was a crown given him, and he went forth conquering that he might conquer.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y181/Jujubox/N1-Conquest.jpg
6:3. And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying: Come and see.
6:4. And there went out another horse that was red. And to him that sat thereon, it was given that he should take peace from the earth: and that they should kill one another. And a great sword was given to him.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y181/Jujubox/N2-War.jpg
6:5. And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature saying: Come and see. And behold a black horse. And he that sat on him had a pair of scales in his hand.
6:6. And I heard, as it were a voice in the midst of the four living creatures, saying: Two pounds of wheat for a penny, and thrice two pounds of barley for a penny: and see thou hurt not the wine and the oil.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y181/Jujubox/N3-Famine.jpg
6:7. And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying: Come and see.
6:8. And behold a pale horse: and he that sat upon him, his name was Death. And hell followed him.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y181/Jujubox/N4-Death.jpg
69. And behold a rusty 'Bot [WTF ?]: and sat upon it, a naked chick with Mickey Mouse ears [I should stop drink too much wine]. Her name was Joy. And Sillyness and Euphoria will be the beginning of that sketchbook.
Thank you, Lord ! :^^;:

I think the Iron Giant would look a wee bit more perplexed if he suddenly found himself straddled by a nude bemouse-eared woman.

Hello, Julien!!! Congratulations on new book :bounce:.
Now lets talk about bastards characters you painted for us.
I think that compositions and this rough brown paper BG is gorgeous. I like the torn, scratched, treated outlines of the frames very much. it gives raw, primary, straightforward, cruel sensations to the illustrations
All characters are very precise to description, in my opinion, The whole impression from the images is very bold and exact. Very clear message, without any ambivalence. As it should be, it is ultimate punishments, last days on Earth. Everything is very serious and irrefutable.
I enjoy the clear message and perfect generalization of the characters.
The first one is cruel, arrogant, hateful, obsessed cold hearted murderer. Skillful and bloodthirsty.
Actually it presents in all characters, the madness and pathology, but in slightly different nuances. The first one is the most calculating between them, with a greedy heart and cold head. a warrior.
Critique: The horse looks tired and subdued, diminishing the feeling of strong cruel inevitable force. It has too warm, human expression. It allows a human compassion into picture, which is not suitable in my opinion. I would suggest to increase its chest and neck a bit, make it stronger. Expression of its snout too, I think it would be better to go for madness.
Second image. Total nuts. Moving toward us in a mad gallop with high-pitched squall, enjoying the destruction to the most possible degree. horrifying.
I would suggest to define the grip of his hand on the sword better, to show how strong and inevitable his power is. The horse face, I would suggest to make it even more crazy, with senseless open mouth and foam dripping from it, and eyes, round, coming out of limits of the eye sockets. And the wounds from tears on the corners of its mouth.
The weak place is the legs of the horse. They are not dynamic enough and spoil a serious effect from the picture in my opinion. It would be better if they were a little more realistic, less straight and stylized. They looks too wooden now, I think, they need to be bent more. I would suggest you to struggle more with them, it is worth to give the picture the biggest impact possible. Extreme insanity. Intimidating. The character himself is perfect though, very intense.
Next : Hunger, right? I think it is perfect. no crits, it looks not as intense as others but sure tragic and heart destroying. Maybe even thinner horse would be better, more impact, but it is not important. Diagonal placement on paper of the image and both of the texts is awesome, very tasteful.
The forth, looking good, laughing victorious killer with no constrains in the large. horse is a bit too strong looking, i would prefer it pale and sicker looking, almost like shadow, with dirty scarce mane.
But it is up to you, buddy.
Overall it is very powerful illustrations. and they are done in one integrated style.
And you know what I think about the last one :nohope:
See you, my dear friend.
Bye.

Fuck I just erased everything I wrote, ah! Such an idiot, haha
And way..
SWEEEET! these look great Julien. I can't wait to have these in my hands as
4 by 6 prints to frame, ;) all in a row. even retard girl.
Really I can't give a crit for most of these except the war rider.
I think you can have a better pose for the horse mainly his legs, to make it look like he is running and skidding some dirt and chunks of rumble, heres some reference to give you an idea:
http://www.gillian-harris.co.uk/images/horsegallop.jpg
http://www.talkinghorsefengshui.com/images/galloping_horse.jpg
Or maybe you can change a lot and have the horse up on his hind legs, and the riders is swing his sword up and it's getting cropped off by the border, his head is up yelling and his angry eyes are looking at his enemy.like this for the horse:
http://www.animalsvoice.com/IMAGES/horse_rearing.jpg
or this with different legs more dynamic legs, but good face on horse I think:
http://www.starsusa.com/Images/adultsI/amI/am10986c_Doug_OnHorse_Rearing.jpg
Anyway those are just ideas. :)
glad you started a new book Juju. I should do the same. :)
again I will be waiting for those print sometime in the mail, ;) maybe for x-mas. :bashful:

It's so good to be back, specially after read all your kind words, Huhuhu ! :^^: Thank you folks.
@ Haldor: Hahaha ! Thank you Daniel, glad to read you here. And yeah, you are the first reply ! :bashful:
@ Fellah: My Danish brother gimme a comment and I feel all fuzzy and warm, huhuhu ! Yeah, let's the party begin ! On a personal note, thank you for our "conversation" via PM, very helpful ! ;)
@ Mentler: Merci Michael ! :) :) :)
@ Jens: Nothing more than what I PM you. But You made a valid point: The similarity with "you know who" is probably due to the fact he count as one of my main influences. Cheers, man.
@ Seedling: I will be not perplex in his case, lucky bot ! :perv:
@ Infinit: Bonjour, Monsieur Manuel ! How's things mein freund ? Thank you for the kind words. :)
@ Sve: OMG, Sve ! Hehehe ! Conceptart will be not the same without you ! ;)
Ears of the guy who started this book belong to Svetlana Henrichovna Lazutkin... Everyone who is willing to touch them, including the person who started the book should ask a permission to do so from Mrs Lazutkin (written in three sets on protocol defined form). Permission will be denied.
You made me laugh, my friend... I think I can not deny it: seems like my ears are yours. To that point, I prefer be honest and say that if my ears are yours, my heart belong to Simon and my ass to Poise... :bashful:
That was the hell of a reply ! Wow ! I agree with most of your comment, you made a valid point each time. I didn't realise about the first horse, and now I read your words I realise you aare right... I don't know how to correct it but I will keep your comment in mind.
Second Rider will be probably the ones I will start from the beginning. It's the one I like the less, I was never inspired by this one. The crits given by Poise will be a good guideline for the new version.
Third one is the one I like the most, strangely [because I have no idea at all when I start it]. Now I'm pretty sure I will not change this one.
Death need a bit more work, on the horse the most.
And Joy... Well, you know the reason I start to draw the horsemen was for finishing with something totally nuts, colored, as an opposite to the four preview ones.
Thank you for your comment buddy. °^^°
@ Interceptor: Thank you Loren, my sweet Canadian buddy. Hope you will have FUN at the SF workshop ! ;)
@ Jake: Hey man ! Be sure I will visit your Bag O' Monster soon ! Thank you for the kind words. :)
@ Poise: You're the greatest, you know that ? Your crit is very helpful, to the point I think I will start Rider N°2 from the beginning. Certainly something close to the stance you have suggested, like an evil Zorro, something like that. And thanks for the references, I appreciate you took the time. Talk to you soon. ;)
And now... Well... Some sylliness ? :^^;:

Hello, Folks. :meow:
Here a picture that maybe some of you saw by the past, but I have never post it in one of my Sketchbook, so...
Here come "Vampy Kitty" a character create from silly conversations with Poise. [Can she walk on feathers for the five next generations]. I agree with the idea that the legs need a tad bit more work on, but feel free to point anything that can be pushed a [bit more] further. Will take everything in consideration.
Peace.

Babes and bots! Can't ask for a better Christmas gift.
How are you, Julien? From the looks of things, i would say just fine and thanks for the retrospect of your works. Most I had seen, but there were a few that I missed along the way.
I like the experimentation (that's what i call it anyways, ha, ha) with the four horsemen. The Death one being my favorite, very iconic. The sepia tone works well with these, but I thought that the figures themselves looked a bit flat. Was this intentional? Even in the girl with the mickey mouse ears, she looks kind of flat, too. But then everything else that you posted since fills out rather nicely! And then some:)
The balls/heart made me laugh out loud. Brilliant!
All of your textures are great and they work so well on the robots. rusting yet still maintaining vibrant colors.
oy, there's so much goodness to save. I hope that you had a great Christmas and have great New Year's my friend.

Hello, gang !
Sorry for not reply to everyone, but be sure I will take the time to edit that post when I will have some time. ;) I just want take the time to give some quick news. Basically, things are good, lot of comissions to make, mainly for France, UK and Europe... That's all I can say about it. This is quite new situation for me, and you can guess that's the reason of my absence from this board. I wish I can have more time for personal artwork, but I don't have the same energy that in the past. The few free time is used for personal projects, that I want push as further as possible. Another challenge for me.
Here some pictures:
I start with a pin-up illustration I made for "Hard 8, volume 2", a U.S indie comic-book anthology. The guys used it as a promotional poster, wich is an honor for me. Was a great experience, I had an absolute freedom, and worked in an unusual format for me [in inches, I mean ! lol ! :P]. I will published the full picture once the book will be realesed... For San Diego Comicon, for exemple ? ;)
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y181/Jujubox/H82_Poster.jpg
Here two quickies made on my very few free time:
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y181/Jujubox/Cheeryen.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y181/Jujubox/BPE.jpg
And here a set of pictures taken at "Mont St Michel". I was in fine compagny that last week: Mike Dutton and his wonderful wife were my host for a three day trip. It was a blast, naturaly, and I consider them as friends for life now we had the chance to meet eachother "for real". :teeth:

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y181/Jujubox/Mt-St-Michel-Mix-02.jpg
I really shot as a tourist, that day, lol ! :P
Et voilà ! This is unfortunatly the best update I can make from now, I wish you guys and ladies are doing things great. I need to finish other comissions, so I will be absent a little more time. I'm sorry. :S
Take care, Folks !

i like the last piece with the almost exploding boob, but i think this one (http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y181/Jujubox/Cheeryen.jpg) is one of the best from this whole page. it just has this really good atmosphere and she appears very alive. keep posting man.

Really cool sketchbook - I enjoy all of these, and I dig your style/the fact that a lot of them could most definitely be magazine adds, among other things.
Also, found the Photoshop shots quite helpful, as I'm learning/teaching myself how to paint in it.
Jawesome!

hey julien, it was great meeting you at con ( i was the one who showed up at borders) i just flipped through your sketchbook, awesome work man. everything is fast, loose and full of life, its beatiful. i think the only thing i would have to say is the forehead on this last one, seems a little out of perspective from the rest of the face. either way it looks great man.

@ Richkid: Ho, what a good surprise ! Hi, man ! How's things for you ? Good, I hope ! :) Thanks for the compliment, that made my day... and thanks for the crit, you are right. Unfortunatly, the file is not on my computer actully, but as soon as I get it, I will post it here.
Wish you the best, and see you next time. ;)
J.
@ Manuel: Bonjour Manuel, you are right, the crap job is eating my life for way too long but it should end pretty soon. I discover now why patience is a virtue ! hahaha ! ;) Being in San Diego was the best decision I take this year, I really need a good breack at that time, and a good breack it was !
Take care, amigo.
@ Lee: And I think my next update will be when I will be done with all my obligations. Not sure that will be in this SB by the way, maybe more some stuff for the FF section ? Who knows ? The few art I made during that time is all NDA for now, so I can't show anything.
Okay, folks, thank you for your kind words. Let say this SB is in stand-by for a while. I need...

Merci, Matt ! ;) But you know where you can find me, now ! ;)
Hi there ! Here's a WIP from the very first hours to the finished picture. Time to figure what will be the font treatment, and I will probably post this one in the FF section, with other stuff.
Acrylic, Coffee [true], Collage, Photography, my wonderful kitty, a skull bird and PS are involved into this picture.

If I have more time on my hands, I will try to keep this approach with different topics/subject matter. I had too much fun with and need to push that further.
Hope all is well for you guys. :)
