Haven't posted anything in a while. Wish I had been more productive in my absence, but was concentrating on other stuff for a while. But hopefully I can get back into the swing of things now. Here's some things I've worked on in the meantime....

(now, let's see if I can get the hang of this image attachment thing)

I like the mermaid pic the most.

Though I gotta say, cropping the dudes head off like that is a weird thing to do compositionally. Also the two are not interacting in any way, their relation is not clear in any sense.

Thanks for the comments Theo. I purposely cut the man's head off, thinking it was unnecessary to tell the story or evoke the mood of the picture. actually to my mind it works better not being distracted by other faces, and lends an air of mystery to the painting. in this case I guess I should revise my first statement... it is necessarily unnecesary to show the man's face ^_^

Love your cityscapes by the way!

thanks! I checked out your website too. nice stuff there. I can see what your trying to get to with hiding his face.. For me it just seems sorta like there is a story there, and im supposed to understand it, but I dont. wich is frustrating. Thats why I never draw characters, they demand context! and also because I SUCK at drawing them! :P keep drawing!

heh, maybe that's why I rarely draw landscape or wide angle scenes... (must practice more must practice more!) thanks again Theo.

I like the mermaid painting best as well. I think it makes perfect sense- it looks like she's broken out of an aquarium tank, there's fish, water, and broken glass on the floor, it looks like there's another tank in the background with fish in it. The two men have caught her trying to get away, she seems to have an angry but also frightened expression on her face.

Thanks for the comments Sunraven. What I like about the mermaid one is that it is a little open ended... depending on the viewer, the men could be there for a variety of reasons... are they there to help her or hinder her escape.

I had posted the mermaid pic a number of months ago, but really just reposted it to show the steps I took while making it. Anyone have comments on the other pieces?

Thanks Kent. That play of light was a bit of magic... I keep trying to find that magic again in my other pieces but IT hasn't shown up again yet. a one-eyed old hag out on the foggy moor told me the secret to that magic... "practice"... apparently it's an old sanskrit word that means "make your fingertips go numb", but I'm not sure what to do with that information. :)

Really like, but I suggest you alter the fin on the mermaid's tail a bit. As it is, it seems kinda short and stumpy compared to her character. Could stand to be longer, thinner....

Awesome pieces here, Chingwa!
Simply love the powerful materic brush strokes, i think that a real painting are also a kind of sculpt.
The Mermaid are... alive, and i'm falling in love for her. Incredible real volumes of the face muscles, and this expression...wow. The worryngly presence behind wake up my sense of protection for the Mermaid...i hate this nektie man ;-]

P.S. Your avatar is an high school piece of design. Traditional calligraphy decorations rocks!
P.P.S. If you draw another piece whit the mermaid character, please PM me, i really don't want to loose!

ICH: Thank you for taking the time to write! I hate that necktie man too.

vigostar: Thanks Dude!
