Creases

Hey people. Just a quick thread although I dunno if this is in the correct Category so sorry if it is.
I just wanted a few tips on how to draw creases/folds in clothes.

Studying reference is really the only way to make considerable improvement. Examine various types of cloth very closely and try to replicate the folds on paper. Squinting helps.

My process, even though im not very advanced, is to map out the basic shape with a very faint line. Once I have the shape I start to block in my mid-tones then darks, after im happy with that I go back finish off the lights and all else. If I go a bit dark in some places a piece of white chalk or an eraser comes in very handy.

The best bet is to work from reference, if your doing this from home just grab a sheet or item of clothing and drape it over a chair or foot stool. Arange it until your happy then start :)

You should check out the book Dynamic Wrinkles and Drapery (http://www.amazon.com/Dynamic-Wrinkles-Drapery-Burne-Hogarth/dp/0823015874/ref=si3_rdr_bb_product/102-1740773-1876111) by Burne Hogarth. He talks about the shading of drapery, but more importantly how creases in clothes move with the body.
