View Full Version : Looking for some line art to color
November 30th, 2006, 04:34 PM
Hiyas... I'm working on my digital coloring portfolio for submission to the comics companies and have run out of art from some of my regulars to color up. I could use some nice high-res bitmap tiffs of some decent comic pinups or pages (sequential if possible).
Thanks - www.TomMartinArt.com for a flavor of what I'll do to it.

Have you tried contacting the submissions departments of the various comics companies? They might well have samples available for exactly this purpose.
Alternatives might be to either just scan b/w comics at high res or send a pm to some of the comic artists on this or other boards, see if they'll send you a few.
Edit: Darkhorse for example are cool with you just scanning a b/w and submitting that.

Submissions pages for the comics companies don't have links or email addresses... it's pretty archaic, but I'm guessing the reason they don't have files for sample coloring is that anyone could rip off someone else's pages. I think they rely on you to select your own pages so that there's less of a chance to plagiarize.
I have no idea who the comic artists here are, I'm hoping they'll spot this and pop in. I'm not really a regular around these parts.

Sorry, I edited at the exact time that you posted, see the Darkhorse linky above.
Edit- you might want to try sending a polite pm to Staz Johnson who posts here, he's a jolly nice chap who's worked on some huge titles and I seem to remember him hooking people up with line art to colour before..worth a try maybe.

in the JOBs section of this very site, i think there are some people asking for pro bono or "spec" comic coloring...the line art is prety cool,
id email them and see how they'd feel about you showing pages you color for them in your portfolio.
