Hey folkals. I'm really a nobody here, i was at the last workshop is montreal which btw was fantastic. I'm coming down to this one aswell and i'm wondering about my portfolio.

Right now i'm out of school, i was in a 2d animation program at Seneca college in canada. and it was no longer what i wanted. i wanted to explore art and drawing more, not just cartoons and animation (which was what they were doing). and as such thats now what i'm doing and the main thing other then work is my brushing up heavily on my foundations. mainly through the excerscises in a great book "The Natural Way to Draw".
Quick explaination of the book: focused on observational studies, design, foundational work. the book is set up like a regular school curriculum with specific amounts of time suggested to be spent on certain things (ie, 3 hour drawing sessions typically, where you alternate the studies within specific amounts of time.)
Now i'm trying to follow the schedule pretty closely since i've got the time. but up untill now and likely till dec 15th the drawings arent ment to be "good" or even coherent often times. they're simply excerscises to learn with.

So the question is, do i pull away from this stuff to get a more up to date and full portfolio together or stick with what i'm doing and just show the mostly older pieces from my current portfolio.

i loved the portfolio review that i got last workshop and this is why i ask about this now. thanks guys, cant wait to see some of ya at the workshop! i'll be at the HI downtown hostel too by the way.

I'm also wondering about the portfolio review process. I guess I'll post my questions here as well: what should our portfolio be like? Do we prepare it as if using it for a serious job/college interview? Do we put only finished works (no sketches) there? Any information regarding this would be greatly appriciated.

Yeh Im curious too. Id like to have an Idea of what theyll be looking for in terms of portfolio content. Im not bothered about employment as im still inexperienced and in education, But id like to get an idea of where I am at this stage of my life.

Thanks

Put together all of your best works, probably about 10-20 or so. maybe less if you only want to show your very best. Present them as nicely as you can, laminated or whatever.

I really don't think theres too much more to say then that. Get your best work, and present it well.

As far as what "they" want to see, hopefully that's what you'll be getting out of their critiques.
