I'm doing a school project and this is my first piece out of three, WIP.
I'll need all your crits! Thanks!

Perhaps we could get a description of the project? It's slightly harder to comment if we don't know where it will be going or it's purpose. Also I think your ear there is too much of a pink tone, maybe try blending it'd leading edge a bit more where it attaches to the head. And I know it's not done, and you were probably going to do this already, but make sure you up the contrast on the head in general, shadows are your friend in terms of showing depth. Not a bad start overall though.

Update! Thanks for the reply, Truepinkas! Well the description for the assignment was to "show the roots of my intrerest in nature" or something similarly vague. What I'm doing is three paintings, all divided in this manner, the golden ratio, to show my interest in the scientifical. The different paintings show different aspects of this. This first one is based on the golden number, phi. The head in profile of humans show evidence of this proportion, as does the DNA-molecule, different animals and plants.

I tried upping the contrast on the head, and ended up almost ruining it. As I'm doing it in watercolour, I'm really afraid of doing mistakes and not having any undo-button! Tell my what you think of this update!

(Also the contrast of the face actually looks LESS in this later picture, but that's just a crappy photo...)
