I was reading up some threads about markers, and the general consensus was that the best way to apply markers so that the inked line art is not smudged/faded, is to make copies.

If I wanted to do a markers/watercolor work, how can I copy the line art on to heavy quality paper? Is it ok to feed bristol into a copy machine or printer?

I've looked at some pricier printer paper and it is usually too glossy to watercolor
on. The regular printer paper or copier paper is pretty decent for markers however, since it is fairly smooth (However not thick at all).

If anyone has any suggestions on how to make this process work, they are greatly appreciated.

Thanks:yayca:

lightbox it and do your marker work on vellum maybe, never tried watercolor on vellum though so don't know how that will turn out. its rather time consuming but so is cleaning out paper jams in xerox machines. I know you can feed heavyweight matte photo paper into most printers but not sure how thick you can go before it jams up.

well like said above, you can marker and watercolour right on top of your inks, if you ink with pigment inks.

if i want to experiment and do multiple versions i either just photocopy, print on normal paper, or on 200gr kent paper or watercolour paper. also recently ran kraftpaper through my printer - its all good.. check what maximum thickness your printer can deal with (!!!), but don't feel you need to stick to 'print' paper. like i said, normal paper works fine for lines -leave your printer driver paper setting on normal.

edit - my printer uses pigment inks though, so i don't know how waterproof your normal printer will be.
same goes for copy machine of course though - check in the manual or online how thick a paper you can run through it.
