View Full Version : is my work dull?

At the risk of being despised I must ask the following question:
Why do I never receive more than 2 replies to any of my art posts?
It leads me to assume that my work is simply not interesting enough to respond to. Is this a safe assumption?
I have had almost no technical criticisms, though I know my work is not technically perfect by any stretch of the imagination.
Though I hate to ask, I must do so to help address the self-doubt suffered by the huge lack of response to my work.
If my work sucks, I would appreciate knowing why at least, so I can improve.
Hope you have the time to reply,

Chiba

One thing that I think helps when people are giving critiques is if they can see a bunch of your work at one time. I bet you would get more feedback if you posted a bunch of sketches at one time because then people can see the consistencies or inconsistencies...etc... I wouldn't worry too much about getting no response...when I first started posting here I got no responses but then when I kept posting and kept improving people started to notice and take more interest. Keep going and keep drawing!

hi chiba

first of all, you should definitely add your site in your profile, especially if you want people to give you more feedbacks on your art. not having a site means that we can rely on your art only by viewing the three images you have left on CA lately.
add a link to the threads you're talking about too. it will allow peeps to gain time not doing a search.
each month, a lot of new artists come up and ask for comments and critics. it becomes even harder to please everybody.

do not hesitate to rush towards creation and art. create more, look around, find inspirations from all the stuff you see, be passionate and post more. it may be hard sometimes especially when you feel depressed, but don't let these dark feelings surrender you too easily.

Hi Chiba,

I suppose what could help you is, giving other people some constructive criticism. If someone thinks you correspond to him more than the usual cheering crowd he will answer more easily to one of your post. All posting here is a kind of give and take.

Ans Sparth comment on the website is a good one ... I myself should get up my a$$ and start working on it ...

I second MCM, Fipse and sparth! First give constructive criticism - then ask for it.

don't feel too bad about replies any lack of. for what it's worth, i'm not sure what the secret is either. i've had stuff that i considered good and got like 2-3 replies. don't take it personally. but i think the advice that has been given is quite good. offer criticism and get involved in discussion so people get to know you as an individual and therefore want to help you out when you post new work.

myself, i'm a diehard lurker so i'm quite content with whatever feedback i receive.

cheers,
steve
