This is my first post in this thread.. hopefully it's in the right one.
This is a CD cover concept, I'm quite happy with it and hopefully it leads somewhere.
It's been a while since I've painted (digital or not) but I'm hoping to do a lot more work from now on, I know I've lost a lot of technique.
enough chit chat, here's my piece

Not bad, personally I would desaturate the colors in the clothes that are farter away in space and add more detail and contrast to the things that you want to be in focus more.

There's somethign about the background that makes it look like he's sitting next to a painted backdrop. Not sure what it is. Cool mood, I like the shadows on his face and very well done hands (i'm envious). Maybe there could be more of a reflection of him in the pavement?

you're right about the background, mainly it just needs to have a softer tone to it to push it back a ways; try a subtle blur effect.

thanks guys.. I think it's the reflection of the lights on the pavement that's really screwing up the depth... after a few days of not looking at it, the perspective makes it look like it's a few feet away.
I'll touch it up and repost.

Dude, that is one dark pic. Almost hard to tell what's going on... almost.
Very nice. :confident

It's dark, but probably not as dark as you think.. there is a lot of variation in the darks, but your monitor has to be configured to the cue to see a lot of the details.. same thing happened to me when I took the picture from the office PC home, could barely see a thing.
Thanks,

what really can tie a piece together is the use of text// lettering. i dont know that too many artists have CDs without a name on the cover or some type of familiar marking. you should try to incorporate text and see if it can really be utilized as a cover.

I like the concept, but I agree with Treks. It would be good to see how the lettering works with this piece. Head/shoulders also needs some definition. It was hard to identify the pose at first.

i agree wit that guy who sed it looks like hes sitting next to a backdrop. it does look like hes sitting next to a painting of the city. i think u need to brighten this up a little too.
use a reference for the background. that will help a LOT

I think this piece would look much better with a secondary light source on the figure. This would brighten it up while still allowing you to keep a dark contrast
