I'm very surprise this thread havent been created yet. However I don't see it anywhere.
I'm strong believer that is best for each of us to create our own brush since we made them for us. I also believe
it is good to see how does everyone else around us, it make us learn together. I'm also a stong believer in sharing.
This is why I'm creating this thread, I've seen a lot of people asking for brushes how to create them and I fint it hard
to search in a 15 pages thread.
This place is not meant to explain on how to create them. If you want to know how to create them look here:
http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=47859
On a side note I'd like to say that is not recommended to use 100% someone else brushes unless you feel confortable with it.
I'm sure you can start from a brush and make it fit to you. Sometime I see nice brushes effect but Is not the shape I want,
So I make my own shape and refine the brush to fit me.
Please keep it clean and make a thumbnails, the whole idea is to get a little library.
I hope you'll find good help here and learn something:)
Let the sharing begin!

I have a variety of brushes that I use, but at the moment, I'm going through a phase of brush minimalism. I made one multipurpose brush that I quite like. It uses the "Chalk 17 pixels" tip that comes with Photshop (part of "Wet Media Brushes"). I set Opacity and Flow Jitter both to Pen Pressure and Angle Jitter to Initial Direction. This brush is very, very simple, but it is great for achieving a painterly effect. It's fun to work in dabs of paint with this brush, changing size frequently and using the same brush in conjunction with the Eraser tool.

feel free to download them and do as you wish with them, I normally ask people not to use commercially, but in the spirit of giving, feel free to use without restriction.
edit: they aren't dynamic though, so i tweaked a few and got some messy spray can effects
http:creativemac.digitalmedianet.com has some nice ones available too, specifically for hair and clouds

Very nice sharing ´round here. I personally have made only a few. But handy. For example one that make zippers. Like, clothing zippers, y, know?
I´ll try to post em later on.
But I have a question:
Doey anyone know, or can tell me how to organize brushes?
Like making a pallette with maybe 5 brush settings I want to use?
Because I have soooooo many now, thanks to all the ppl over at deviant art, that I totally loose track in my brushes browser.
I want to create a palette for my black and white stuff and one for monochrome and so on.
Any ideas?

Note: I use a ton of brushes, some made up on the spot but also many of Bumskee's - BaRONTiERi's and Alday.J's. I also change the settings constantly if I find something lacking or unsatisfactory. Just play around with these, maybe they have some use to you?
70562
A: Basic Round; Size to Pressure, minimum size varies as needed. Flow and Opacity to Pressure. Manual Opacity never changes, Manual flow changes as needed. Softness changes as needed via keyboard shortcuts (shift+[ and shift+])
B: New* Brush, Dirty cover/Foliage Cover Brush. Default round with dual brush option, otherwise settings same as above.
C: Squished Elliptical: Angled to -116 degrees, squished to 36%, angle set to inital direction; otherwise same setting as A. Feels a bit more like a paintbrush, doesn't blend as well however.
D: New* Drawing Brush: Actually used much smaller than seen here, dual brush option adds a bit of 'randomness' negating a little bit of the digital feel. Settings otherwise same as A.
E: Foliage Brush 1: Generic, used to fill in and play with edges. Scattering etc. used to mix things up a bit. See settings on your own if curious :P
F: Cover/Dirty Brush: Used like the bottom right swatch mainly - basically a texture applied to a brush stroke with a bit of variance.
G: Foliage Brush 2: Used large as seen in bottom right and larger. Usually in random and wild strokes for inital abstraction.
H: Foliage Brush 3: Lighter cover, alteration of the same brushstamp as G, a bit more into the individual leaves category. Rarely used by itself.
I: Foliage Brush 4: Meh, just another brush ahah. Try it huge too.
J: Large Foliage Brush: Original size is 1200 px. Real nice huge abstract brush.
K: Barontieri's Chalk: I think this is the same as I got it from BaRONTiERi's set but I can't remember. I wouldn't have included it except I use it quite a bit, or have at least. Good for dirty textures and foliage.
L: Flower/Grain Brush: Use this puppy for flowers and to add grain and otherwise variance to paintings. Good to mix up foliage as well.
M: Palette Knife: Can be nice for drawing, seems too digital when painting - need to tweak it.
N: More random foliage brush: Can be nice to add some variety - can't say I've really used it as the main event.
O: A bit sharper shapes, can help with seeing more manmade shapes in abstractions.
P: Ground cover brush: I mess with the settings on this one a lot - but can make some decent dirt/ground.
Q: New* Dirty Brush: Just used to dirty things up so far.
R: Ugly Branches brush: When messed with properly can be ok... otherwise way too ugly and digital.

Yeah sure.
1. download the brushes to a file.
2. extract them if they are .zip or.rar to a folder
3. open Photoshop
4. select the brush tool and right click > click Preste manager
5. in Presert manager click load brushes
6. select the brushes you downloaded (from the EXTRACTED file)
7. Click Done
now you should be able to use them...

They are only $3 - but if you want some for free...
Checkout my Frost & Tip brushes for free here: Frost & Tip (http://suztv.deviantart.com/art/Frost-Brushes-51505520)
I've tested them in CS2 & CS3 and they work fine in both versions - so have at it peeps!

Hello people! It's time to share here my own brushes. I've created this sets scanning some real splats and ink drops and trying to obtain a natural media feeling right there, inside Photoshop CS3.
Most of the brushes that I found through the years are just "stamps" without any configuration, so I don't want to paint with a rubber stamp!
The first "Artistic Set" was created a year ago:

Artistic Brushes Pack #1 (http://alexdukal.blogspot.com/2008/03/artistic-brushes-para-photoshop-free.html) (The post is in spanish and english)
the second one its a little bigger (and better):

Artistic Brushes Pack #2 (http://alexdukal.blogspot.com/2008/12/artistic-brushes-pack-2-free.html)
Here's a video showing how each brush works:

I wish to have a few more brush controls inside Photoshop! Something like Corel Painter Watercolours, Impasto and a control for gravity would be nice too! But who knows "when" ... :S

Hey, Dukal, these brushes looks very promising, as Photoshop is poor in imitating traditional medias. I'm downloading it right now. About license, I have a question about non-commercial use. Does using brushes in work means a commercial use, even if I wouldn't get paid thanks directly by brushes?

The CC license is mainly for those who want to include the brushes in CDs / DVDs and make some money, that's not allowed! I want to keep this sets for free.
There's no problem with collegues that want to use the brushes in personal or commercial artworks (of course, a link back is allways welcome).
Is that understable?

Heres the real pencil brush I created, I feel kinda embarassed that there is only one to share, but it is a quality one, mimics the real pencil to a tee I believe, small size for sketching, large size for shading!

Pencil is a basic round with texture set to height
the 'pastel' is lightly textured to go with the level of texture of the other brushes, pretty fine. It is a flat brush with angle set to initial direction so it'll give a calligraphy effect if you do a long curve with it. If you set it to direction it'll be a little more jagged. I use it for small strokes though. I should probably make it a square brush.
The other 3 "Textured...." brushes are my attempt to make a pencil shading brush. Angle is set to direction and you can get those cool circles and tubes that way but I actually have angle set to tilt most of the time, maybe try that also. Painter 11 has a very sweet pencil tool that does this now but as much as I like the cool stuff in Painter it fails in too many ways.

So recently I made a brush using the CDC's photos of the H1N1 virus (http://art.lismitchell.net/?p=21). I changed the contrast a little and painted the edges out and voila! A brush that you can use for underwater coral reefs, zombie skin, lilacs, lava, blood corpuscles, etcetra.
I also posted on my art blog about some recent brushes I'd made for foliage, wood grain, stone, speckles, and roots. (http://art.lismitchell.net/?p=12) (Some of these work well for general texture brushes as well. The roots one requires only a few tweaks to take it from making roots to a nice parchmenty effect.)
Edited to add: I don't care if people want to link the H1N1 brush thither and yon, or redistribute it, as I got the original texture from the CDC site on the H1N1 virus, and it's more or less something I adapted, as opposed to something I created. But I would prefer if the other brushes, painted from scratch by me, were not redistributed, and if you do use them in a painting, to link back to my art blog (http://art.lismitchell.net).

Thanks everyone for sharing your brushes, and when I get better I hope to share my stuff.

Does anyone know where I can get the perspective brush Whit Brachna uses in his tutorials?
Sharkcellar
July 16th, 2009, 07:48 PM
I was curious as to what Whit Brachna was talking about when he said he uses the "chalk tool" in one of his tutorials. Well, obviously he was talking about the chalk brush in the PS palette. The one he's using in the Massive Black PS training video is from the default PS brush palette. It is the chalk brush that is sized at 36 points. Be aware that this brush's "full size" appearance will be different if you are using CS4. It appears that he has rotated this brush -75° so that it is vertical. He's also changed the spacing to ~12%. There are other things he's done to it but I can't quite figure it out. Anyone?

I could be wrong, but i think you have to have a tablet driver installed with pressure sensitivity enabled in the custom brush options to get that interesting serpentine fade in your strokes.

This is my tool set that I draw with. I tried to capture a lot of the things I like about Painter with some of these brushes, like my favorite "Static Pencil" and "Painter Hack" brushes. The painter hack brush is a mixer brush which can go from a drawing brush to a blender brush by clicking the "0" key for blending and double clicking the "0" key to go back to dry. Just put this in your tools folder to use.
The file is very big and for that I apologize, but I think someone will find some use with it. Take care.
