It seems like it was just yesterday that I made my last thread, but it's really been two months. Time sure does fly by!
I've been doing some contract work the past few months, so I haven't been able to squeeze out as much work as I would've liked to, but I wanted to share what I've done during my oh- so-limited free time. (Some of you might have already seen some of these. My apologies for the deja vu)
Telepathy Soldier

Everything below this, is just really quick work that I did before bed a couple times. The last two were my very first concepts for the Great Discovery theme for round 3 of LMSTD2.

And along the way, I got a chance to create an appropriate blog. http://www.robin-chyo.com/blog. Hope you'll get a chance to check it out! :)

Good work man! We should chat on AIM sometime =)
If there is one crit I have it is contrast;
There are some places on this (http://robin-chyo.com/art/portfolio/leader.jpg) piece that I think could use some more contrast, but overall it's a good design and stuff.
Keep it up!

Yeah your stuff is lookin goood. The character designs are very appealing as well as well painted.
I would agree with the critique that some of your pieces could use some extra contrast. My only other suggestion/blithering is that potential employers might want your non black and white character designs to show a little more concreteness in exactly what the local colors are.

the design elements in the first two look to be inspired by marko's marvel work. :)
gotta agree with the contrast crit as well.
these are mostly pretty mid-key in terms of value, which lacks visual punch.
darker shadows and stronger highlights will help define things alot more and add interest.
right now the details are getting lost.

The paintings look really good. The character's especially. With the exception of the telepathy warrior and warlord, your paintings could use more time and work. I know they are speed paintings (and you lack the time), but I would've liked to have seen them more refined.

Cool character designs man. I think everything here could use a knock with levels, bump that contrast up some. Your method of coloring over grayscales produces a cool cyberkinetic technicolor dreamland effect, but sometimes it can be a little flat. I have the same problem when I start with grayscale.
One thing I found helped, before I start overlaying colors with blending modes, is to push the color contrasts with Color Balance. Since you can independently control dark, midtones and highlights, you can get some happy suprises colorwise and push contrast without levels. Something to try (if you don't already use this method).
I love your epic dome entries man, they are always impressive.

Nice to see what else you've been up to Robin. Great collection of work. Echo what Cody says about bumping up contrast. Maybe use some more opaque highlights and hard shadow edges over your gradient layers to really pull in the viewer.
Cheers man.

Thanks for the comments, guys.
As far as the design elements go, I was inspired by how Massive Black handles the presentation of their images, so I thought I'd take a stab at it.
And for the comments about the contrast, I'll be sure to push the levels on these images later on today. I usually do adjust the levels on most of my pieces, but I guess I've been a bit disoriented the past few weeks. :P
Oh, and expect to see the greyscale speedpaintings to be refined and colored sometime soon.
Here's a really quick scribble I did last week for http://www.bugglefug.com/dailyscribble

I really hate having to bump my own thread, but I just thought I'd share something I'm working on and in the next thread I create (whenever that might be) I'll show the final along with lots of new stuff. :-)
