I'm trying to develop my style so it isn't called 'anime' anymore. It seems to be some warped lovechild between anime, american comics, and Disney....

I already know her foot's a little messed up. Anything else?

Your style on the piece is unique. Im not really a big fan of anime and disney, but the way you combined the two is original, and that I like.

You seem to have hit on nice style of painting there and think it works well. Apart from the foot like you mentioned yourself it's looking very good indeed especially the kimono. Keep up the good work.

Sounds like it could be a very popular style. If you want it to look less anime then make her eyes smaller, and give her a more substantial jaw. The eye's aren't quite symetrical, the outer corner of the near eye is slightly lower than the farther one, not really a big deal. What would be a most beneficial change, I think, would be to change the color of the line, some sort of brown perhaps or harmonize it some other way, that happens quite often in Disney art.

Ooh, you're right! Thank you. =D
I think I"m going to fix the symetry, like you said, and try that line color bit.

I'm not sure about the eyes and jaw part, because I just kinda dig those features in some characters, and the Little Mermaid etc sure had them.

You might want to check her anatomy, it looks like he has two right feet at the moment.

The overall figure looks really flat, I don't know if that's what you were going for, but I think even in cel-shading the shape is more defined.

The only feature that seems to resemble Disney is her nose, which, rather prominent and 3D-looking, contrasts the flatness of her eyes and mouth. It's a rather odd combination, and like you said, looks like a mix of two different styles. This makes the drawing look disjointed.

I think I would advise adding elements of the styles into each of her features, instead of selecting several features from either and piling them together into one image.

Also, the black colour of the line really cuts into the soft colouring; make it thinner or make the shade lighter to avoid this.

Good luck with finding your style :teeth:

I agree with changing the line color! the biggest difference between disney and anime ISNT the eyes in my opinion, disney started the big eyes syndrome..... Its the line thats very different. Most anime uses black but delicate lines and this is carried on by the fans in their artwork. Where as the more western cartoon uses more colorful lines, sometimes a different color line for each area. And if you want to borrow from american comics make the line very heavy in some areas =3

otherwise its looking great!
