This is my first post on this forum. I usually keep to myself, but I'm a bit stuck on a piece I'm working on for a project and decided to see what some fellow artists had to say. Basically, the middle girl is casting a teleportation spell of sorts when she's interupted by the spectral image of Skull Dude up there. I guess my biggest problem is that I'm not sure how to tackle the magical effect. It definitely has to be bright, but I'm doing this illustration mainly in black ink. I'm a bit confounded... Hrmmm.....

excellent first post! amazing detail, great subject matter I can't really offer any advice on the magic affect minus maybe lots of contrast to show a lot of light? you could look through other images that show magic and find one you enjoy and base your style off that going from there. :D

Thanks, guys. Yeah, I'll end up doing something with high contrast. It's really just the shape that I'm hung up on. In any case, I'll update this again soon with the final image

Well, im no expert, but ill try to help, try experimenting with runes beign broken, some kind of recognizable structure that is beign destroyed, or de-constructed, some "energy" beign dispersed, sent away, lost, but, in what way is she interrupted?, is the spell beign borken or the skull just appears?, maybe mre info would help?.
