This piece, a commission for Merek Cardew, was fairly challenging; I never drew a dragon, yet alone painted one. Figuring out what makes a dragon 'click' was fairly challenging. I wanted this dragon to be fairly simple looking, almost like a lizard, so I avoided any superfluous content.
For the kid/elf, I wanted him to be very expressive but not too 'cartoonish' looking. I used myself as reference for him as well.
I'm satisfied with the final result, a lot of hard work went into this project.

I think you have some really nice parts here but, there are few things that bother me.. First thing is that cliff like bottom end. You could totally do without it... I would crop it so that all you see is the tall grass.... Something happened with the dragons tail.... I know its there but, I feel as if it should be seen more... you kind of tucked it away underneath the dragon and for a tail to be so short it looks like its in a rather uncomfortable position... theres no real interaction between the two characters... The boy is looking away somehwere (maybe you can give an indication where) and the dragon seems to be sleeping although its head is completely turned backwards. Again an uncomfortable position... I do think the comp. as a whole work... The position of the boy is great and everything is rendered nicely.. I think with some minor tweaking you can have a solid piece.. good luck..

I agree with the above comments, esp the one about the very bottom of the picture, is that a castle wall? a rock cliff? I also think you went crazy on the SSS shader in the boy's ear, tone it down just a tad there. The junction of the neck/body of the dragon looks translucent too even though it appears as if it should've been a reflection from a well lit area.
You did very good on the textures, I like the boy's foot too. Only a couple items from being a great work.
