Man, these are some seriously sweet drawings you got. The line quality is fantastic, and the marker rendering is really nicely done. The Jim Carey and Tom Selleck caricatures are my favs. The island huts are pretty cool too. My only crit would be on the first one, which seems to have so much going on, with not enough contrast between objects, it gets to be a bit distractiong

very fun comic style. strong linework and fun concepts. In the above image the helicopter looks too close in perspective to be on the far side of the mountain - one blade indicates it is behind the hill. But anyways, keep up the good work :)

Jeff,
Thanks about the comic stuff up top, I always love comic art, some of my personal comic icons are Raymond, Frazetta, Wood, love the whole EC comic line-up.
Here are a few old comic style art thet I did a few years ago (I want to do more like this soon). This was done with watered down India ink and a nice Kolinsky Sable brush, proabaly a size 0 or a 1, I would use a big mop brush for the huge black areas. Also, Zip-a-tone was used for the dot patterned grey areas:

I have got to say, probably some of the best work and shading on this site. Favorite is the caricature of Jim Carrey. great work. Im a comic fan myself, but try and loosen up a little with the sketches, try some life drawing, also would like to see more environments. Keep up the good work.
My Sketchbook- C&C very welcome

Really inspiring stuff to look at. I can't help but note that I see a bit of a Frazetta influence in Post #'s 18,22,25 and 26. Really fun and entertaining to look at. Each page appears to my eyes to be considered individual illustrations. Do you tackle a page in your sketch book with that intention or does it just work out that way?

bhanu- Thanks man! More soon!
Wheeljack18-Yeah, Frazetta's comic stuff (pre Lil Abner) is some of the best comic/ ink work out there. Also, Alex Raymond, Wally Wood's EC stuff!
I don't know how my sketchbook pages will unfold when I start. I usually start in one direction, then get board and start throwing in the whacky stuff. Thanks!
smrtbob, spudstudios, abyss103-Thanks guys!!
Onnophris-Thanks!! I use a brush at home, but when I'm sketching outside somewhere I use a Pitt brush pen. Here's a shot of what I usually carry...

We need some fresh work bud. I'm outta inspiration here. You've forced me to re-examine Mr Frazetta and yet once again I am filled with Hate for the bugger ( in a good way) heh heh.

Sorry for the delay in posting, I've been slammed with freelance work for a couple of months.
Hey, I've got a couple of comic illustrations for that I did this week. First one will be a cover, seconds an interior pinup. Ink on bristol board, 10x15 in.

Thanks guys, yeah I'm alive! Alot of projects keeping me busy lately. I'm going to be doing a 10 page comic story next, I want to do it very much in the EC style. I should be getting the script this week. I'll post the art as I complete them.

So you ARE a comic book artist/illustrator! I thought so. Where did you go to school? Beautiful work. You've certainly got a command of all the basics. Design, Composition, Line, Proportion, Perspective, Etc. Are you just beginning in the field, or, have you been working for some time?

Joe, Hey man how you been!? Dude, I didn't know you were on the boards, cool! Are you posting some of those insane caracatures?
Dennis-I like to do comic art, but I've only done about a couple of professional comic jobs, last one was about 6-7 years ago. I do it mostly for fun, as I'm not fast enough to do a monthly title.
Pat
P.S.,I colored my cover illustration:
DennisCurrie
April 28th, 2007, 10:55 PM
Not fast enough...I understand. I had to come to grips with that myself. I simply can't rush my work. When I do, the result is usualy not to my liking. I can paint and draw every day, but for only a certain amount of time and then I begin to lose consciousness. I'm a slow artist. I like to see the work evolve over a matter of days...even weeks for the bigger pieces. I could never do the illustration thing. Those who can, I admire their fortitude.

Some of your stuff have the sensibilities of 70-ish illustration.
Which I think was the best in comics.
Very, very wonderful work..
Loved the Ec era as well, only mine was more on Nino and Filipino veterans.:)

May 28th, 2007, 08:25 PM
Thanks guys!
Bard- Yeah, the Philipino guys are great, speaking of which. Last year I had the pleasure of working with Frank Reyes for a few months. Wow, what a fantastic artist and nice guy. We were both doing layouts and BG's for Curious George.
We had a portrait painting class at work, here is my painting. It took probably about 6 hours total spread out over 4 sessions. I'm hooked, I want to do more! We used a limited palette, no black.
