Hi,

I was idly trying to push a global illumination look.
You can see both the partial tone image and the pencil
sketch side by side.

Although I doubt I'll continue this image in that direction, I think global illumination has such a consistent look from GI render to render that there has to be a few shortcuts to doing it by hand -- anyone know what I'm talking about? Or some painted art looking like GI?

Anyway, here's the link, Picture 15 (http://www.uomotudo.netfirms.com/index.htm)

Tom.

looks pretty good, the shadows/light source look reasonably consistent to me. one thing that bugs me is this arm, the bicep is too big compared to his shoulder. probly not what you wanted to be critiqued on but hey :)

the only problem i have with it, is it seems as though he got hit and didnt really move when it happened, you gotta anticipate the movement, kinda jerking backwards, and surprised, unless hes against a wall or something. otherwise, incredible work, it beets the PANTS off mine....:p

Hi Sin - I think you're right. It's a pity the motion has that ambiguity ... maybe it comes from a couple of things: I never saw a person get shot by arrows (except actors) and I have an impression that an actual arrow is likely to go right through you, unless from quite a distance ... so there's some lack of reference and context for the drawing I guess.

However, I also think maybe he's been shot for a while but has some grit to still stay on his feet before dying ... long enough to pluck out the arrow his hand is on ... there's a bit of blood on his chest, so he's been shot for at least long enough for the trickle ... but all in all, it was just a fun sketchbook scribble that I wanted to colour in while sleepless all night. It expresses something of an idea or mood -- rather than being about about things anatomy-wise...
