Hi Ty,

I was thinking quite the same - thought this was an american thing. Most Europeans are more easygoing with nudity and so I was quite amused about this hints. Fortunately I´m more or less Chef in my atelier and can look what I want without anyone complaining. But I see that there are problems when you´re surfing the web in a company where you have conservative superiors. Wen they see nudity on the screen - be it as artificially as wanted (and I doubt many people see barebreasted chicks with sword and guns as art ;)) the employees can get in serious trouble. The more conservative or prude the company the more trouble.

So if I see a reason to publish nudity on a board I think that I will put this hint in the thread, too so noone gets in trouble.

Well um.. if people don't post nudity i will edit them and put nudity or (18+). Because this being a professional forum(or once was) there are many people who come to this forum at their work. Looking at pictures of robots with machine guns is fine at some works, looking at titties and jibblets can be embarassing.

Personally, I find the warnings are very helpful. I look at CA in school, and if I was looking at a thread that contained nudity, that could be a big UH- OH.

i agree ty on some levels..
i never thought the art community would be so close minded and bias but i guess i thought wrong.

seriously i gave out a picture of a girl i really like with a nose ring and i hear comments like "she would be pretty if she didn't mess up her face with piercings"... and i know some of you know that i myself have large piercings, but it's the fact that:
1) Someone would just bluntly say "your friend looks ugly with that"
2) That they have such a problem with external human aesthetics such piercings, YET they are following a dream to be a conceptual designer where they alter many things to be 'creative'.

Hypocrites everywhere...

d: i totally agree. same here, just with fingernails instead of piercings.

darkcult: what is wrong about children seeing nudity?
that, imho, is what ty calls prudeville. nudity is natural, and should be treated that way.
sexually offensive stuff or porn is something different.

still, those nudity tags are needed, since there are employers who don't allow using the internet access from your workplace for nudity containing stuff.
so, i guess it's only polite to tell those people, who can get fucked by their employer because of that, where is nudity and where is not.
that got nothing to do with minors maybe getting to see a painted breast or -heaven forbid- maybe even two of them.
thinking that nudity in general is only for 18+ people is the most immature thing i know.

exactly--

the europeans understand this

but americans--with our pruditan--oops--i mean puritan roots --are so uptight about nudity--

What is wrong with children and nudity. I have involved my son in art events (with nudity) since he was three. There is a big diffence between nudity and sex and nudity and pornography. Unfortunately there is a large segment of the conservative population that deficient in the required gray matter to make see the differentiation. Their loss and our burden.

I kinda think it has more to do with the public nature of this forum and the internet as a whole. Since you never know who's looking, you kinda have to observe the lowest common denominator, just to cover your own ass. The last thing anyone wants is for the CA admins to catch hell cause some kid claims he didn't know there would be naked chicks in the thread.

I'm okay with "Better Safe than Sorry."

Don't get me wrong. I am too. I just think that it is a shame that we have to even consider it at all. In this day and age we would have been rid of these puritanical misconceptions.

Totally agreed. Although, there's something disingenuous about the people who tell you that you shouldn't get excited at fine art images of nude women. Fact is, nudity is a turn-on (when it's the right pair of people involved). I'd just as soon hear people say "that painting turns me on" and let it go at that than have people on either extreme put their 2¢ in and try to make it a black-or-white situation.

But these are certainly lawyerin' times we live in. 'Sides – I don't know what I'm talking about anyway. ;)

*sigh*

the old masters had to declare their imagery content being from the world of gods and/or mystics (venus, angels, etc), today we have to bang everyone's head to make sure he won't run into nudity inadvertedly.
looks like people haven't progressed a bit since then ;)

that does not change anything about the employer argument and that, imho, is still the only one that carries any weight in the whole disxussion.

Don't forget about sexual harrasment issues too. Looking at a naked babe with a gun at work could land someone in hot water where that is concerned.

Boy, how weird it must be to be one of those guys that designs porno box-covers. Can you imagine? I've seen some want-ads in the New York Times for such a job, perhaps I should go that route if the whole "concept art" thing goes sour. :cyclops:

Nudity is a weird issue. I heard a story a few years ago about a college student who sued the school over an old master painting that was framed on the wall of her class room that featured a nude female.

You never can tell what people are going to take offense at. Nudity is seen as being "indecent" yet in many places in this country (most notably NYC and LA), women going topless is not illegal.
