here is thor facing the wyrm og midgaard from the Nordic mythlogy.
but on this picture in modern time. thor got fisherman clothes on, :D

Heh, I like it. First I went "wtf? Thor as a lumberjack on a bridge?" Then I read your text.. pretty cool idea.

Well, it's a great image but the interaction is not there... here's some instant thoughts, hope you don't mind.
-tor looks like he's facing away or looking "over the shoulder" of the midgårdsorm (hehe true name)
-the temperature changes on the body of the wyrm feels too random to read as volume changes.
- maybe darken the wyrms body as it almost covers the moon ?
- the cast shadow of tor on the midgardswyrms body seems off.
- maybe add a highlight rim of the moon on the body of the wyrm to describe the shape more?
that should be enough for now :P

The light from the serpent's mouth might be a bit too strong. It looks a bit light a flashflight in his mouth. Nice idea :)

Cool inspiration, maybe you can inspire in Age of Mythologie.
