Can anyone help me with some ideas for a still life drawing?
I need to do one for school, it has to be 5 objects one simple one complex and 3 others inbetween..
I want to do a very good job on it and add it to my portfolio and post it on here when im done with it, but I can think of ANYTHING to draw..
I dont really haveanyhting laying aroudn the hosue that is good for it, so if anyone can throw some ideas for one at me I would be very grateful!!

Take a look at the old masters: this will help you to arrange the objects. Also take a look at the "composition thread" in the Middle Class section, which will help you to arrange the stuff. And go for simple objects, like mugs, apples, oranges, cigarette or match boxes, your remote control and so on. When you've never done it before, go for the simplest objects you can find. Also, set up a consistent strong light source, which will help you to find and draw the shadows.
Hope this helps.

Don't tell me that you don't own any of the following objects:
toothbrush
comb
cutlery
mugs
trousers
pens
brushes
books
box of matches
plates
pots or pans
towels
belt
shoes
box of cereals
...got the idea? It doesn't have to be spectacular items, rather your rendering of them has to be spectacular.

and my favorite for light studies.... TOILET PAPER!
If you can, take your time as you draw the still life. Imagine that you are touching the objects, and running your finger along them in space. Good luck! :)

Well, I didnt want to draw boring objects like those..
Did you ever see the still life called "garlic and onions" by a member of this board (his name escapes me).. IT was a breathtaking drawing. I wanted to do something like that.. if he had draw toothbrushes, shoes and pens, it wouldnt have the same effect.. you knwo what I mean?

Yes, I remember this breathtaking still life. But no, I don't know what you mean. I'm convinced that this guy (can't remember his name either) would draw breathtaking toohtbrushes :D So, if you want to draw onions and garlic, go out and buy some. They don't cost much and you can even eat them after drawing. So where's your problem?

LOL, youre too funny..
I want to do a still life similar to that, but with different subject matter (I dont want to do the exact same subject he did) I jsut want something with that "classic" look, instead of stuff like toothbrushes or toilet paper.. Im sure he can draw breathtaking toothbrushes too.. :D

I see - to find weird/strange/interesting (pick one) subjects/items why not browse your local garage or car boot sales? It's amazing of what stuff people want to get rid of.
:p
