AHH say no to filters!!

nice start on the bottom one, the pose is really awkard, you cant tell if hes looking up or what. post some more progress on it, maybe we can give some more crits on that. laters

Haha, why should I say no to filters? I thought it looked cool. Kind of a blazing thin effect.

What do you mean after?? Actually I was looking for some feedback BEFORE I go any further lol. you mentioned the pose. What do you mean just the head? What should I do to change it?

I think my main problem is that I stay too "fidel" to my sketch (wich is of course filled with mistakes).

For the head, I was actually thinking about a double-headed monster or something. But I'm not sure about this concept lol. It looks too weird to be cool :nohope: The way this is going I might change it all and start from scratch.

Hmm. I say don't go any further with this. You need to back up and study some human and animal anatomy.

WHOA...What happened??
Is that a man in the throat? so is that a creature/demon thing or is that a human wearing a costume?
If in fact that is a human then I would have to agree with seedling, stop. you need to polish up on your anatomy, before you spend lots and lots of time on a piece you will probably never use anywhere.
If that was a creature...you can bend the rules of anatomy, as long as the result is always believable and functional.

and the pose is awkward in the way of...what the heck is he doing? Think about what he is doing at that exact moment and then visualize how you can make it portray that action the best way possible. Looks like hes dancing to me...that song comes to mind.." shake shake shake, shake your booty"

great I wont be able to get it out of my head now (hums)

It's a monster guys. Not a human or a shark. And that last one is a joke lol. Just to show how confuse I am with this concept! :) I'm not sure about the head and claws.

Haha, now I see what you mean Jlafaro.. you're right about the pose. Maybe I should change that before I "finish" this.

Thanks again for your crits.

If you like to stay loyal to your sketch, why not make more sketches? You draw something a couple of times, you keep getting closer to the mark. The creature/character's worthy of being revisited, so i wouldn't give up on it. YOu just need to be more clear of what goes where. And start from the skeleton/basic forms up, mind you. It has to look like it's able to move

It's a monster guys. Not a human or a shark.

The problem is this: if you want to paint monsters, you have to understand real anatomy well enough to be able to realistically fake anatomy.

-I agree with walnut's advice. I would draw a bunch of thumbnails of the same creature in different poses before settling on a final pose to detail out.

I don't like it. It's just a very bad habit of mine. I should obviously correct my mistakes BEFORE I start painting. But I never do it for some reason.

Seedling: Gheez, sorry for trying. I'll come back in 25 years when I've totally mastered anatomy

I might not be a pro yet but I am very aware of my obvious anatomical mistakes. I just don't correct them when I should :^^;:

It's in moments like these I realize I'm stupid :confident

Pes - if you put your work here, that means you want feedback. You got your feedback. You don’t have to like the feedback, you don’t have to agree with it, but complaining about getting what you asked for ain’t exactly kosher.

And no, you're not stupid.

Sorry about that. Now I understand you were trying to help me. Your comment actually motivated me to revise my anatomy and correct some mistakes :) without you, I would've probably continued this piece in vain.

Thank you all for you crits.

No problemo. Hey, if you're interested, I'm running a sort of class-thing (http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=81332) over in the fine arts section.

Yeah I saw that. Looks cool to me :)

Here's a recent update. It looks kinda dull for now but I corrected a lot of mistakes.

There was something bothering me about the shoulders. Still not sure about the claws & background though.

I still have to add texture and maybe some clothing/armor... I dunno.

I think this is a fun design but you still have a bit of anatomy troubles underneath.
The left leg (our left) is shorter then the right.
I think what's bothering you about the shoulders is their connection to the torso, right now they look like two seperate forms you need to connect the shoulder to the body more right now where the chest meets the shoulder they look very divided.
Don't be afraid to use some referances to figure out how things should look. it will help alot.

Rhubix: Thanks :) I see what you mean. I'll try to fix the legs tomorow.

I tried to fix the shoulder/pecs problem. I also added some possible tatoos & armor.. But I'm not sure where I'm going with this... IMO he looks better naked (I can't believe I just said that! )
