I like this style. Very fine-art. Looks lokely academic. I like in these pictures that they are not really finished.

Hey
i really like your pictures. The feeling is little loose, but feels like they're talkin... The best one is #3 which i really adore.
Great work!

pretty heavy all the way round. like the style and the sketchiness.

I like the two more realistic figures in dynamic poses. (the last one, and the sixth one) Thats just because im not a fan of the style of the others.
I like the energy they have, I can picture them gestureing and moving. Very cool.

derek who? no i'm just kidding. derek hess is surely one of my favourite artists. and to have someone tell me that my pics are just rip offs was actually what made me post here. and i thank you for doing so.
im only drawing for some months now, and these are the only more or less finished pieces i did. the order of them in my post is chronological. the first is the newest, the last the oldest. i hope one can see that i try to move away from just copying derek hess, but just some months isn't a very long time for finding an own style.
so davi, if you or someone else who knows the works of derek hess could comment on this developement? i would greatly appreciate that.

didn't know about hess till davi linked him, but wow, amazing stuff.
i'm glad that your newer work is the stuff on the top, because that seems like better stuff. i particularly like the old lady playing guitar.
i don't know how much art experience you have but i'd say don't be too worried about finding or adopting any certain style. it ought to come along on its own.
i'd suggest working on foundation stuff if figurative art is going to be your thing. hess for example seems pretty crazy and a little deep in the abstraction end but his figure and anatomy knowledge is rather convincing.
cheers,
steve

Nice renderings. I'm not too familiar with the work of derek hess but I don't see any problem with observing another artists style inorder to define your own. Keep'em comming.
