I am new here, and this is my first thread. I am extremely new to drawing digitally although my artistic skills with the pencil aren't that bad. Nevertheless, this is my first attempt at painting with photoshop so please be kind. This was done all with the mouse, as I do not have a wacom tablet yet...I really need one as I am left handed, and the mouse frys my nerves :(
It's about 85% finished, IMO just clean it up, work on the shadows etc

Hey dude...your like in the same class and sitting right behind me....Far out :teeth:
Er...okay so you want a critique eh? I think your on the right track. Your got the detail in the head pretty good. It really captures that metal look well. If you can maybe try to put more reflection in the red gauntlet areas. I know those are alittle bit metallic also. You might want to smooth out the background also. Lower your opacity bar and maybe use a smooth brush.
Considering your left-handed and using a right handed mouse you are doing pretty darn good. I know you got alot of talent seeing your work in person. Once you get a tablet it will make your life far easier painting in photoshop.

imo you have strong troubles concerning your shadows
they suddenly become pitch black
try to work with coloured shadows more
also your black areas lack a lot of details

This is very good for using a mouse. I'd love to see what you could do with a Wacom tablet. I'd have to agree with Infinit about the shadows being too dark. Black shadows are very cold. You might try using a really dark blue or purple as your shadow color instead as it will add warmth. Sometimes using a complementary color for the shadow adds depth. For example, for the red gauntlets you could use a dark desaturated green as the shadow color, sort of a dark grey-green. It's just a thought to play around with.
You've captured a good pose too. Good work.

Ok, this is my latest update, I tried less shadows as some of you mentioned, I tweaked the color hue too giving it a colder, snowy feel..., still not to happy with the wall he's on, wish I could smooth it out even more. This is my first digital painting so I need more work...I need a tablet bad....:xpld:

I would add his legs into the picture. The fact that you cut him off at his knees would make a viewer think, "This guy can't draw legs".
Also, tone down the red on his arm guards. Makes it hard to focus on the rest of the picture.
Keep up the good work.

Love it. Nice feeling, good action, nice balance and flow.
Im going to be cheeky and suggest 'da Fett needs a bit more in the trouser department too, but rather a few tugs to get him in a stronger proportion.
I did a paint over so you can see what I am yappin' about.
Nudged the arm up too. Hope that helps and you dont think Im being a pain.

Pretty nice painting you have going on here. just need to try tighten the gun up a bit. and is you want to make the transitions in the shadows and such more suttle you can try playing around with the flow a bit. really nice so far
