The topic "8th world wonder" is really good. There are so many ways you could do a new world wonder great idea.
My idea is to design an own hero. There are so many different storys and heros nut we could imagine our own hero (or group of heroes).
This is my topic idea, but yours is also interesting.

Book Scene
Capture the scene from a book or story. Any scene you want, just post a slight snippet from the text as the picture's description.
Old Picture Redraw
Dig up the old sketchbooks and doodles from middle school and elementry and recreate them.

Heres a suggestion for you guys,
-your favorite song
paint what your favorite song is, what goes through your mind when you hear it, what emotional distress or joy it creates or the madness it influenced you to paint. Of course keeping it in relation to the song and content.
as bonus you could always post a link to the song-that way everyone knows what the hell just happened in your head. Music to illustration interpretation...hmmm onto something maybe...

hahahaha, "my sarcasm detector has gone off the scale"
that really depends on what the song is - If you're a big fan of jimi hendrix its not exactly difficult to paint a picture of your favourite song - whatever tripped out thing next comes into your hippy head. But if you like, for example, death-core metal, you'll be hard pressed to think of anything that isnt just a page full of black paint
v0rbiss
November 11th, 2006, 08:18 PM
On sarcasm: it should be forbidden for americans tho..*sarcasm/m\ *
What I was trying to imply was, that those two senses are extremely different from each other, and it'd be far too hard task to sucessfully express the emotions created by a song trough an image. It's been tryed(sp?) before, with poor result, and you'd never guess what was the idea, before reading the theory(massive theory at that) behind it.(Kandinsky comes to mind) There is simply no way to hear with your eyes or something like that. Imagine looking at an image, and the first tought you get is: "woah, master of puppets!".
So I stand by my previous statement: fuck that.:^^:
On a side note-abstract art is too complex for teens. Hell, it's complicated for some of the adult painters too, it seems! ;)
JL.Alfaro
November 11th, 2006, 11:49 PM
...and it'd be far too hard task to sucessfully express the emotions created by a song trough an image
Success would depend on the song, all songs have a meaning behind their creation. Even instrumentals have meaningful titles which open a window into the origin or story behind them(eg. Beethoven's Ode to Joy, Vivaldi's Four Seasons, Coletrain's Favorite things etc) Metal and death metal are almost always(but not always) tinted with anti political propaganda or political awareness. Every type of music contains a purpose or a message, and so does the songs of that gender. Any rock song will have a story as well as any rap song will have a message. Its really not that hard to do, you of all people should know what your favorite song is all about...after all thats why it's your favorite...right?
Oh and whats America without sarcasm...:\
EDIT: On a second thought, you might be right about it being too complex for the teens. Nevermind, I guess some of us liked our challenges higher when we where teens. laters
Justin.
November 11th, 2006, 11:52 PM
There was an all girls T-Dome earlier where the topic was "Interpret a song through your art", and there were FANTASTIC entries, so it really isn't that hard...

That's a silly thing to say. I don't think you should be coming around a thread with that type of attitude and patronization. It doesn't help anyone, and definitely doesn't make you look like a hero. Thanks.
JL.Alfaro
November 12th, 2006, 03:13 PM
Attitude? Sorry didnt realize I had one-was just reemphasizing what vorbiss said..
... is too complex for teens. Hell, it's complicated for some of the adult painters too, it seems! ;)
My apologies again if I insulted or demeaned any one on the thread. I'll get out of your hair now, bye. (no sarcasm intended)

November 12th, 2006, 05:01 PM
Jake was talking about that part I suppose: I guess some of us liked our challenges higher when we where teens
Patronizing and "I'm better than you" type of statement, par excellance! ;)
I don't think anyone feelings were hurt, I was just voicing my opinion, i may be wrong on the subject, but take my 2cents for all they'r worth...
And you shouldn't leave the thread just because someone didn't liked your idea. ;) Feedback=good. No attn.=bad! \w/

No, positive feedback = good. If you like an idea, show support for it, but there's really no reason to call out someone else's suggestion just to shoot it down.
Play nice, guys. This isn't the place for petty arguments.

I was doing that?!? Hmmm....
And btw, I should keep my mouth shut when I think someone's idea isn't apropriate in the particular case, is that right? I'm not forcing my opinion to anyone, just typed what was on my mind...If I wasn't constructive enough in my
explanation what exactly I think was wrong, I'm sorry. I realize(now) using phrases like "fuck that", altho not entirely(irony, read as: not at all) serious, may disturb some ppl, surprisingly. ;)

Deffinately. I mean we'll be moving into challenge #21 now. We SHOULD have a mascot. It'd be good as a two week one. That way we'll really have time to develope our ideas and work on it, which is important for something that could wind up being permanent.

Well we could just slightly tweak the topics to stuff a game or film company would want. Its probably what we are already doing but if its what we are going to do in future then wouldnt it be good to practise. Without limiting creativity.... like Design a gun that can be dual weilded with alien design powefull, or Full suit for futuristic space marine not original but just those kind of topics.

November 26th, 2006, 06:12 AM
I think a good topic would be The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
You choose one of the riders and illustrate him/her.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_Horsemen_of_the_Apocalypse
"The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are mentioned in the Bible in chapter six of the Book of Revelation. The four horsemen are traditionally named Pestilence, War, Famine, and Death. However, this is slightly at odds with the conventional interpretation of the Bible, which actually only directly names the fourth: "Death".
Consequently, it is not possible to definitively state the intended interpretation of the horsemen; in fact, interpretations frequently reflect contemporary values and issues."
Cheers!

- Illustrate the "city" of the internet (if the internet was a place where the sites were buildings what would it look like, how would the people look? Maybe a focus on what ConceptArt would look like if it were a building in this internet city)
- The artist of the future, complete with his tools of the future... (we use pencil, paint, wacoms...but what would they use?)
- The afterlife, like purgatory or limbo...idk if thats been done before but it sounds like it could be borrowing/incorporated into some of the other ideas

Leadster I love that idea! That's way sick. How about some Spaghetti Western stuff, or a mix of Western/Future concepts. Umm, think Daisy Kutter! Or we can do something with limited paletts? Use certain colors to come up with an illustration?
How about mixing westerns and samurai flicks, Akira Kurosawa and Eastwood, siiiick. XD

Then next step in human evolution- You're prediction for our appearance in a few million years. Something decidedly not human but that looks like it could have started that way. For an added challenge you could try to take what humans need to survive in the future or how we have supposedly evolved in the past into account and just so it's not another creature challenge, make it so the face of the subject has some character so it looks unique, like people do.

Oooh, that's a great idea. Yeah, that'd be way fun. I also like the conceptual evolutionary idea. I saw a discovery channel show where they did something similar to that, but there weren't many hominid creatures until you found out that the invertebrates like squids and octopus became the dominant species.

Two Ideas:
1. I thought it would be fun to take a screen shot of a scene from a cartoon like Futurama or Family Guy or whatever floats your boat and try to reproduce it in a more realistic style. Now, you wouldn't need to go for complete realism or anything. Just a different style that isn't quite as minimalistic as most cartoons. The characters and structures in the picture must be recognizable as who they are base on.
2. Suggestion two is an environment... What I had in mind was too hard to explain so I'll simplify it: Design a place so fucking* fantastic that your head would explode (in a good way) if you actually went there. Some kind of wonderland, though, not necessarily one of the winter variety.
*(Profanity for emphasis, not a suggestion for theme)

By the way. This is my first time posting in this section. (I think) and I know this is where all the young ones of CA hang, and I thought I should join in before I turn 20 next mouth!
Heres my ideas.
1; Well I took this idea from Jakes his thread, which I'm still drawing, but Teen challenge doesn't have a mascot Illustration graphic like COW, Chow, ect! Wanna make one?!
2; Story Boarding, most artist listen to music while drawing. And sometimes When I do that I create my own story of animation in my head. We can do a short story, fight scene, or whatever your creative mindsthink of.
3; Epitaph (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epitaph), Pick an epitaph and make an illustration based off it.

It is, but doesn't it seem just a bit too much like the self portrait one we just did?Well yes its kind of similiar, but I swear it wasn't inspired by that. The point is we have a choice to pick any face that could fit n twist with the facial feature with some theme and make it work.

I don't know if it's been suggested, but how about one based on mythology? Maybe we each take a myth and illustrate it. Or if that's too broad, narrow it down some. Like, Greek myths, or Chinese myths, etc. Or even further down into separate myths. I vote for Daphne (the myth where she turns into a laurel tree).
Or maybe your idea of God/god/gods? It would be interesting to see how different religions affect each person's views.

I got that idea when I was watching one of my favorite show Angel, the Buffy spin off. And sadly it canceled suddenly, but mind you it did a lot better than Buffy. They end it with angel swinging his sword saying "Lets go to work" its his epitaph but its an Aphorisms. Epitaph are Aphorisms that are clever text engaved on a tomb stone. "Like thats all folks", and "I'm burried some where over there". If you use Aphorisms. We can qoute famous lines from various poems or Famous qoutes. Or even a whole poem (but make it short).
exp;
"When two illnesses arrive at the same time, the stronger silences the weaker." Hippocrates.
Picture with your clever twist.
Maybe You'll know what I'm talking about if I post links
