This is the opening post for a modified version of a Sketchbook Support Group. No art yet...but it will certainly follow.

This is a fairly good collection of some loose-lipped free thinkers...so if you are offended by foul language, nudity, violence, anal sex with farm animals, whatever...this is the perfect thread for you to peruse before you go off and bomb an abortion clinic.

We will all be posting sketches and art in this thread. Critiques, sarcasm, and blatant ridicule will be in full effect. Comments by the masses are more than welcome and are in fact encouraged...but be forewarned...we will comment back.

Infinit and Asoir...sorry dudes...not yet. Maybe if it fails to take off, or somebody decides to bail; but for right now I think five is a pretty solid number for a SSG. Besides Asoir...you're already in an SSG, they might not like you two timing 'em. And Infinit, I don't know...I love you man, don't get me wrong, but if we take on any more Germans we might have to go and invade France :nohope:.

In all seriousness...this is as much a work in progress as any start up, and we will see how it goes. The idea, is for this to kind of be an easy place for us to check in on eachothers art and help eachother along. You are more than welcome to hang out, and check in as much as you want, but for now we are going to stick with the five members.

Hey Bee-atch...is that thing due yet? The back seems a bit rigid...kind of a straight line...funky ass too...did you hit him with a two hole punch?

:teeth: Really like the colors and the rocks, reminds me a bit of your "Journey Begins" piece...oh...and soften up the glow on the rocks coming out of his mouth...seems kinda hard lined.

Beelow, nice painting. A few suggestions though to perhaps enhance the mood.

Try lowering the intensity of the bottom light source on the creature, but leave the same intensity on the cliff. With less light on the beast, it should look more like a silhoutte, mostly around the head. This will create higher contrast between the background and the glow from the beasts mouth, which will strengthen the head as the focal point (I'm assuming this is the focal point you chose).

Slightly increase the intensity of the blue cave light and maybe slightly skew the hue towards a green, but only very slightly. This will push the contrast again and strengthen the focus. If you do decide to try the silhoutte suggestion above, add a bit more of the back light to the ceiling above.

Also, your darks can be darker, as well as the roof of the cavern.

I'll do a quick paint over when I get home from work as to what I've mentioned above. Again, these are are only suggestions to make this painting moodier.

Beelow, good painting. I've got a few suggestions that might make the painting have some more impact, and one that most definitely will.

The blues for the shadows aren't dark enough for my taste... I think the whole piece would benefit from darkening of the shadows and in general more contrast. Did a quick paintover that may or may not help. If you listen to any advice I give, for christs sakes listen to suggestion #4. It's an automatic 100 awesome points if included in any piece.

Hey Sundance. I don't think your painting killed this thread. But the subject of the painting did. Jonathan Davis' "teenage mustache" has just been rated A. A for abomination.

I'd like to see some value studies from you. I haven't been seeing much development on form in your last few paintings and think it wouldn't hurt to see a few studies so we can "learned you good". So post some of that stuff so we can critique and ridicule (jk... or am I?).

I think I would make the creature head design a more organic. At the moment its looking like a set of brass knuckles on the back of it's crest, making it feel a bit unbelievable.

nice to see this thread is still alive, I'll post some stuff in here once i get off my ass and paint something.
