okay, i had to start a new thread as the last one was getting a bit long and it took too long to load for my taste atleast.;)
yea, so i got my friend to be model for me and my friend and now i would like to share some photos of the set in here.:) i know there are some things that could have been done better, but this was our first time doing model shooting. so hopefully we learned something for the next time.:)
i would like to say thanks to our model Virpi (even thou she most probably never comes here) for having this opportunity and i hope that it wasn't so bad for you.:P
if you want to see the rest of the photos from the set, please visit

i think most of the problems we have in the photos has been noticed already, but all comments and thoughts are appreciated and hopefully we can learn something new.:)
cheers

Disclaimer: I know *absolutely nothing* about portraiture or fashion photography, so this is all from my limited experience and consumerist way of viewing things ^_^
#1 - The backdrop is kinda distracting, a plain black sheet would have been better. More front lighting to catch the jeans on her front thigh would be good. The pose is good, and her smile is fantastic. It's a shame that the contrast is so high on the bodice as it loses some of the lacework that you can see in the later shots.
#2 - This is my favourite of the three. Once again, a different backdrop would improve it. The right hand on the belly looks slightly out of place, not sure what I'd do to it. Lacework is visible on this shot, which is great.
#3 - Not liking this one as much as the other two. Once again, setting needs work (question: were these shot in your/her house? that's kinda what it looks like. There's nothing wrong with this, it's just my curiosity). Her posture is slightly unnatural looking, it's too stright to go with the head tilt (but her eyes are lovely. You can give her my number if you want ;)). It would also be nice to be able to make out more of the ribbon on her top, but that's me.
In all: This is a really good effort for a first try. In a few weeks I'll be having my first go, and you've given me some things to think about. Any questions about anything I've said, just ask.

very good comments klips, thanks for posting them.:)
most of the things you said has been noticed, but very nice of you to tell every mistake you saw! not been sarcastic, i really mean this. by seeing the mistakes i can learn something.:)
but as you thought, the shooting was done at her place. so we were lacking lights and good backdrop. well the lights should have done the job, but we little messed it up. but that's one thing we learned for the next time.:) a plain sheet would have been better, but not as white as the wall that was in half of the pictures. it was too much alike to her skin and that's not good.
i personally like no. 2 and 3 most. in no.2 my friend did the photoshop editing and did a great job, i couldn't get anything good out of it.
but after the shooting i realiced that lots of photos that i took, has this hand "problem".. if you are shooting people, i think every part of the showing area should be seen.. and now it looks like the hand is just coming from nowhere. (can't really explain what i mean, english aint my first language.. but hopefully you understand what i mean) hmm.. like the hand is taped to her belly..
no. 3 was just too cute!!;) but that's my opinion.:) i dont' see the posture that weird.. but the backdrop was bad.:/
things i suggest you to think before your first model shooting:
- think about the lights (test shooting so your camera works in that light well) - the background (backdrop)..
- and to make your model feel this comfortable, think how you want to shoot her/him like you know what you want and so on.:)
i know you said all these as a problem in my photos, but i did think about those before the shooting, and still the photos didn't work out as perfectly as they could have. and if you are doing the shooting at ur place, then try everything out before the real thing starts.
hope my learnigns can help you with ur coming set.:) would like to see the photos when you have them done.;)
and i think i'm gonna call her first.:P
cheers
