Hey all I recently got a new camera and started to delve into photography. The camera I have is the Pentax *ist DL. I dont know much about camera settings so all [constructive]critcism is welcome. ok so here are some of my photos:

hey there and welcome to CA! very nice bunch you have here - from the parcour-pictures i like the third one the most, although maybe an even tighter crop would be cool, either. in the first, i think the sign is very distracting and there's a tiny bit too much sky visible. without those, i think the repeating blue and green gives it a very nice setting. in the second photo, it's a shame that the person is slightly blurred. it can give a feel of speed and motion sometimes, though. one thing that made me smile is that he's stepping on the walking people's heads... :) it's really hard to take crisp photos of moving people and i always find the background a bit distracting, when it's as sharp as the person - having the background blurred almost immediately created a sense of depht and helps concentrating on the person. in good light conditions like that you could try an aperture around 5.6 or something. a tele would be even better to get a blurry background, but most of us (including myself) don't own one... :)

the lizard is quite nice - i know it's tough to get closer to a shy animal like that, but it would've helped the photo a lot. also: placing it dead center horizontally makes the shot less appealing to me. but the colors are nice and i like the depht of field in this one.

same goes for the 5th. nice colors and dof, and i like the abstract forms here. a slightly lower standpoint would've been better, though, because then the background would've been only the trees and not the houses.

the bees-photo is my favourite shot of this batch over all. very nice colors, a balanced, but interesting composition, i like the backlight - great shot!

sooooo, over all you show a good eye for motifs and a cool variation there. only thing i would suggest is trying to compose a photo while you're taking it. take your time until it feels completely right (especially with shots like the grass etc. where you have the time) and then it's just a matter of practice, i guess. oh, and you could think about giving your photos a simple frame, i can never stress out enough, how much that adds to a photo...

show some more! :)

Thanks alot for that I see where you are coming from with those, they are all un-altered (unfortunantly my half decent photo editing stuff is on my main cpu which is down with viruses at the moment) but now I see where you are coming from with the cropping, I'll give it a shot and see how they turn out. I have some closer of the lizard (extreme close ups) Not from zooming but it allowed me to get about 10cms from its head, I didnt post those up because I didn't know which one to post! But I'll put 1 or 2 up now for you.

As for the shot of the grass...Yeah...about that...That was actually a mistake...I was trying to take a photo of the lizard and I don't know what
happend but I must of shot to high without noticing somehow, but it turned out to be one of my favorite shots!

Thank you for the pointers!

Here are the lizard photos (Im not 100% happy with these):

Hey mate, good to see you got on here. The dude in #1 and 3 is really hot, and those are some phat moves he's busting out :P

Nice work with the one of brett, as stine said it is a bit blurry but It's better than the ones I got. I should have been shooting from a different angle, you did it nicely.

#4 needs a tighter crop, and the other lizard ones have too much in the forground for my liking.

#5 doesn't really do anything for me. #6, I'm not sure if you'll get the reference but "Fuck! BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!"

Hey Eliot!! Good to see you on here mate. You clearly have an eye for photography already, but all we need to do now is teach you about framing etc. The next time I'm around and you have your camera I'll give you a few tips. I'm sure you'll learn quickly though. I love the one with the bees. Really grabbed my attention :D
