Have to try and eat and draw, too, if it leads to excellent results. I wonder what comes out by drawing and eating a Döner Kebap? I really like your comical (?) style. It´s an interesting mixture of different styles by having your own personal touch.

Woah, I love how dynamic your sketches are, I should try sketching while eating, though I think it ll just be a waste of paper XD
Anywayz, good work.

Well, it takes allot of practice to eat and draw at the same time. My subs are generally overloaded because me and the people at subway are on verry good terms. If your not carefull the entire contents of your sub will fall out all over the place and no one likes a sketch book with mustard stains.
The only thing I relly don't like about this page is that spacey gun girls neck is freakishly long. I must have been leaning back when I drew it.
Hey! I'm a groupie now!

Very nice work, how long do each one of those characters generally take you? also, what kind of pen or pencil do you use?

hey groupie what is it that you do in the art field?

tascmaster: I'd say that it takes about 15 to 20 minets to sketch out the general character in red col- erase pencil then it takes me an hour and a half or so to ink everything over with ball point pen.

AmadorL: I work for THQ doing pixel animations for Game Boy Advanced games.

After work, I sit down at the table or computer with a cold bottle of Kirin Ichiban (very smooth beer) and get drawing. A good relaxing buzz helps me draw; I forget about my crappy job, I get the imagination juices lubricated with some alcohol, and then I can create. The buzz lasts till dinner and I am liking the results so far. I recommend drawing with a cool brew.
DISCLAIMER: Must be 21 in order to create while slightly intoxicated. That means no kiddies should drink in the USA.
Super caffeinated beverages are fine though.;)

Guild navigator - I like the comical style - especially the girl with the sword and the robot guy with sorta "exhaust-pipe" head. I often eat while thinking about drawings too - but im not ambidextruos so, Ill have to take a bit and then chew ewhile drawing (warning - look out for grease stains!!!). Hmmm, turkey sub, eeeh? I rather have a salami and brie mi´self! :D

Aikisean - I know a lot of people who uses your method, however, I have never been abe to drw anything, even a "light-beer" (very low alcohol percentage, swedish stuff) is to much for me - my hand gets limp anf I cant draw straight! :/

Guild Navigator, what is the process of creating Gameboy advance games? With sprites? If so, what programs are used? An in-house engine?

Is it difficult to create the characters?

Thanks.

Carnifex:Here's a little comic I doodled out on my wacom a little while ago. It was kind of a stream of conciousness type of thing so it's quite goofy.

xdisciplex: As far as I can tell the process is quite chaotic and varies frome game to game depending on who the project lead is. Generally the whole game starts with the "Game doc".
The game doc is usually several pages outlining the basic premis of the game you wish to create. this usually includes things like back stories of characters, controll and gameplay features as well as character art. Once this gets aproved we usually have a really long and tedious meeting to flesh out the whole game and devise an animation list. After that is over with I generally work from designe sheets for the characters that were suplied by our client.
The program I use to animate the sprites is called Pro Motion. If you have ever dealt with an old Amiga computer you might remember an old art program on it called Delux paint. That is prety much what this program is other than the fact that it is a little more streamlined to fit our needs. Oh yeah, a sprite is any game character of background tile in a 2D game.

Here are a few things I animated with my free time. I can't show you alot of my stuff since I'm under contract but this should be ok.

hey man, swell stuff, i dig it a lot. You infuse your characters with alot of personality and... uh.. well character. Great use of line weight too. line weight is a key element that's often over looked in my opinion. You make very good use of it. Is most of your stuff character based? Just curious cause i tend to mostly do character type stuff.

your stream of conciousness comic was great too. have you read any of jhonen vasquez's books? the bunny in the first frame reminds me of filler bunny, not sayin that it's derivative, just pointin. i laughed aloud when little ninja frank was eating his ninja flakes. that's great stuff. you normally don't think about ninjas' normal routines. ahm, perhaps a suggestion on the anticipation of the taking off... WOOOSH: maybe have him squating a bit more in anticipation of the jump. it's a funny pose and i like it, but it might read better with a squaty anticipation? also its cool the way you don't do any dialogue. adds alot to the tone i thinks. and nutritious too

oh yes, very good stuff man, i hope to see alot more in the future!
ps, do you ever get to have a hand in the design of the game characters? looks like you'd do quite well in the realm of character design.

To be honest the taking off part of the comic was my favorite part. To put any sort of anticipation before he suddenly takes off I think would mess the joke and yes, I've been a big jhonen vasquez fan ever since I discovered Johnny back in 97.
I usually just draw characters but sometimes it bites me to draw a background. I designed some of the robot characters that apeared in the Rocket Power (Beach Bandits) game that we did.
