Are there quite a bit less jobs for people who get a BFA in painting and drawing instead of another art major like commercial design?

It doesnt matter what degree you get.. If you have great art talent there are so many places you can fall into... Marketing... Advertising..Matte painting...conceptual design... illustration...

The best degree you could ever get is being a lifetime learner..

If you want to go into Graphic Design or Transportation Design or Architecture.. things like that then go into that degree.. But a lot of people in the Game Industry.. Concept Industry.. Movie industry...etc.. they all started out doing something differet and eventually fell into where they are.. There are some lucky people out there that had a passion and stuck with it... But most people change there mind about 4 times on there career before they actually get to a place they really love.

Also if you are going to a school that offers many degrees then just take the one that sounds most interesting and versatile..

Or Just go to a Community College and take art classes and figure out what you want to learn there.. or what excites you.. then find a school that is specific on that.

Good luck man,
