Hi fellows...

I've been studying new techniques using customized brushes in Photoshop.

All of these were speedpaintings, hope you like it. C&C will be more than welcome!

Peace.

too much goin on ...waaaaay to much - its too confusing. Values, shapes, colors, textures - everything is too distracting.
I know its speedpaintings but the point is to be economical- even if experimenting with new brush techniques.

Less is more..it really works

Ill take a stab at the last one cause I dont even know where to start with the others:

-Having a structure like that on the side almost as long as the width of the piece creates an artificial border and stops your eye and flattens the piece.
-Snow: look at color of snow - specially in shadows.
-Colors are pasty all around - and stay away from the gradiant cartoony sky.
-Avoid separating your composition into halves (in this case top and bottom)
-Vary your shapes -your rocks by themselves and vs ship are almost identical in shape
-Depth: Could be me more convincing- value of rocks and ship are almost the same
-Your smoke trails are almost solid

I could go on...

you could do all this in a speedpainting

The usage of colors can be more subtle, right now it's too "in my face" boom its green, its white...its purple.
Try to add more transition of the colors, and continue to work on your texturing. You are well on your way.
The way the tree leafs spread are not making much sense to me, please think more about the trees and illustrate them like how you would carefully illustrate a family member, each should hold their own character and personality... that's what illustration is to my knowledge. The subjects are not just items you place in the background, but characters you need to present and mode.
