Hey all,

This is my first post in this forum. I come here a lot but never registered until now for I have a question that I cannot figure out. Im currently in a challenge at cgtalk in the 2d challenge. I finished the Pencil sketch and now want to color it with my New wacom intuos 2 tablet, here is the post there:

"I just opened up my Wacom Intuos 2 , 9X12 inch tablet. It had that glow to it when I took it out of the box for the first time. Thus I then spent the next 4 hours doing those damn tutorials on how to use it and how to setup everything in the control panel, then started to use it in photoshop. Well, im basically stumped and I know someone in this art challenge has to have an answer to my question. When I sketch, I will aplly the same pressure, and then as im drawing one of the lines then goes really dark, and when I sketch I sketch light. HRMMMMM..... . So then I draw even lighter the next time hoping to not get that 100% pressure, and then everything is cool, and then BAMB!! it does it again, its damn frustrating. Its like drawing with a number 2 pencil and then all of a sudden BAMB!! the next line is as dark as a ball point pen. Its really starting to annoy me, I thought it may be the tilt, so I tried a zillion different settings, then messed with the tip pressure , soft then all the way hard, and basically found my only solution was to have my other hand handy on the undo button when the dark lines appear. I mean SHI!@$T, I spend almost $400 dollars on a tablet, and im having to undo every 4 seconds and then make another line. I mean a tablet is suppose to be presure sensative and im suppose to get those dark lines when I press really hard. If anyone has any suggestions, or the correct settings, etc. to place, It would mean a lot for I really dont think im ready to throw my new tablet off my balcony! . Ill wait for some suggestions.."

It might be the settings in photoshop too. Not just for your wacom, since you said you messed with those settings already. I don't think its your wacom, but maybe your photoshop settings. I'm not an expert on this, so you might wanna just wait for some more help.

Sorry!

If you sketch too fast as in making etchings really really fast, your photoshop might take is as a double click. You might have messed with the double clicking settings of your tablet ?
It could also be related to the version of photoshop you got. I know that a lot of people have pressure sensitivity related issues with Ps7..

I can't help you cause I don't own a Wacom, BUT

that is one AWESOME piece though she seems elongated in the neck/upper body - despite that it's very, very inspiring - I'm checking your site right now I'm sure I'll end up linking you!

GREAT work

SEL, first, welcome to conceptart!

About your wacom problem - what version of photoshop do you have? What version of the Wacom drivers are you using? Keep on eye on your history list, as egerie said, it maybe be a double-click detected, and that could cause lots of problems.

Hey thanks guys for the humble welcome!!

Well the wacom drivers im using is the 4.75. I dont know if that is the latest update, but that is what came with the box, if its not, do you have a site I can go download the new drivers from?? Also im using photoshop 6.0, I also reset the settings in photoshop hoping it wasnt soemthing I changed down the line. I did a quick sketch and it was doing fine then the next mark I made was a really dark line. I used the same pressure the whole time, I threw up an example of whats going on... The double click wasnt the problem... If I cant figure it out by this weekend, Ill call wacom tech support Monday.. Tnx again for your help..

Also with the piece above. Many if not all my drawing, I exagorate form, elongate, or break from the norm. I guess its part of my style when I just start sketching, though if I was commissioned to do something photorealistic, it would be by measurement rather then just sketching away... :)

My site is under a total makeover, so dont be too harsh on me :D , I have about 100 more pages of concept art, sketches, commissions, etc. that I need to throw up. Hopefully everything is up by the end of the month....

I had the exact same problem. Egerie's suggestion fixed it: shorten the double-click span, i know it seems weird that that should fix it, but it does. Also, I went to the website and got the latest drivers. I'm sure Egerie's tip will fix it though.

Hey!

Just wanted to email thanks to everyone for the help for the wacom problem, I downloaded the latest drivers and brought down my double click speed, everything seems to work fine now. Once the Penicled piece above is finished being colored, Ill post it here in the Finished work section of the site. Thanks again.
