I haven't been very productive lately and sorely unmotivated. This drawing was done over the span of about 2 weeks, working in 15 minute bursts for a total of 5 hours.

The concept is a sort of blue orc with bladed gloves, dressed in surplus WWII gear. The 'hooks' on the thumbs are meant to ensnare opposing weapons or clothing. The creature's skin is tougher than leather, eliminating the need for heavy armor or protection from its own blades.

It was a struggle to make myself finish the coloring, so this is not quite my best effort. I tried to add some 'rust' and 'grain' textures to the boots and gloves, but the .jpg sort of muddled things up.

Great pic!, ....but i think it looks flat, maybe you should darken the shadow areas and put in some highlights

the blades feel like theyre just dangling--they dont look like extensions of the hands--and therefore dont feel as menacing

if theyre just dangling i could only imagine his akward attempt at a slash/strike

i liek the costume but i think it could use moer detail, patterns, design to make it feel more original.

the glowing eyes are cool and i love his mouth

What the hell? I can't see how I let myself finish an image with so little contrast--it's as washed out as my design career.

I adjusted the image's levels in Photoshop and sharpened it up a bit. I hesitated from doing this at first because I wanted to keep more of a painterly look as opposed to a comic book look, but better is better.

Ty, thanks for the suggestions. I'm not sure why I thought it was a good idea to have the fingers locked together in a single mass. Curved, serrated blades might be more menacing.

I think the costume could work as is if I added some weathering and really make the clothes look beat up--add some texture and what not. I think the main problem with the costume is that it looks too pristine and not battle-worn. That's something I need to work on.

Yeah, second version is very nice. I really like the concept on this character.

The only thing that I have to critique are the arms. His right arm seems as if it is too low, as if the area where it appears that the bottom of the arm would connect with his side, seems like it is too low. And his left arm needs a stronger crease in it (say a black line) where the brachioradialis (I had to look that one up, hehe) comes in front of the bicep.

Otherwise, great piece!
