Incredible works Sammy! I loved the "Viacom" touch on the first one and actually kinda hoped to see it in the 2nd one on the squid monster.

Your background paintings are inspiring. I'll def. be saving these images to my inspiration folder. Especially the ICO ones! I get the same feeling from the backgrounds as in the game...

So eating watermelon turns you evil? Well that explains a lot.
These are really nice. I especially like the last one. She looks like the evil queen in "Sleeping Beauty".
In the 4th one though, that's one awfully big horse. Is it supposed to be that big?
Good stuff.

Sammy! Beautiful stuff man. My only crit is on the first one. The stand of evergreens is too even. 50% is on one side of the pillar, and 50% is on the other side, and the trees aren't repeated anywhere else. Also, if their height was varied a little more, that would help. Other than that, I'm diggin' it all as always. Awesome job!!

Peace,

Mono Is a character from the aclaimed Ps2 game Shadow of the Colossus. the little horned boy name's Wander. ICO is a related game to SotC and ICO is the Name of the main character. And it's the most incredible game I've ever played. and those pictures sammy did are just spectacular. blending the two stories in those pics.

this two games are related in the story ICO was released before shadow of the colossus. so SotC is some sort of spiritual prequel. not a prequel per se. you can find more about this at gamespot.com

Very cool how you mixed up the Ico and Shadow of the Colossus worlds, although they might very well both take place in the same world...

Nice work. :)

Great and impressive stuff! Is this a combination of painter, photoshop, scanned textures, 3D programs, reference photos and lighting effects? Or is it all one program?

Beautiful.

I was notified by a post on Kotaku on these, but obviously I had seen them before (they are saved in "My Aim" folder). Beautiful.

Although I would have loved to see more of De Chirico's influence in these, it is after all one of the major basis of the ICO series.

I love the 5th down from the top. Great use of color and textures. I love the two figures and how the mother is looking down lovingly at her child.
but for composition, it might help to move the horse more to the right and turned 180 deg cause the figures plus the horse looks a little too crammed. Plus the water looks like its higher the the horizon line for some reason. But overall, great pieces.

YEA! talk about major bump action (thanks Kotaku ! HA)

to answer some questions, the MONO was mostly a nerd project with a buddy of mine -- for a spiritual successor to Ueda's games. The basic idea, was to have a game where you played MONO (the female) after Dormin has possessed Wanderer/baby (and started the curse of the horned children.) The game would be an art piece where you get to wander the landscape and have the child metaphysically create 'gardens' for you by giving him watermelons (a reference to the Japanese ending of ICO) .... but reflecting on the gamer as something so selfish MONO eventually uses up the boy for all he's worth, warping her into the Queen (who will need more boys for >:] sacrifice)

These were all done in Photoshop, i used some scans of pencil textures/hatchings to create brushes and canvases. Thanks everyone, sorry i haven't been around in a while i'm keeping busy at Retro.

laters ... and go play PataPon, it's awesome.
