You're link to your website doesn't work...you included the last ) in the link. Once you pull that off the end, it works fine.

Thanks Emily. Im planning on doing more LOTR Chars in this style.
Danke David, thanks for looking.
Thanks tigermilk, your sketchbook is pretty rad, lots of nice figure studies.
JP: Im glad you like the design. Spirals holds the secret of the universe, they say. Use it more often.

Question for ppl checkin gimli out: is the paper texture effect evident? I'm afraid I might have lower the opacity too much that it barely shows, I'll surely appreciate any feedback regarding this. It will help me judge the degree of subtlety next time.

Simple, appealing in it's simplicity. I actually thought it was drawn on a paper(perhaps it is lol) first time I looked, that layer effect fooled me. I think it was just right, if it had been more obvious, perhaps I would have spotted it as a layer effect, I mean the intent is to make it look like it's drawn on a wrinkly paper right?

Wow thank you so much Tomte, your feedback is both informative and reassuring.
How I get the paper effect is quite a happy accident, it was actually a sheet of dried-up fabric softener sheet I picked up from my dryer, the webby texture caught my eye so I scanned it, messed around with it and found out that it creates an almost flawless wrinkled paper effect.
Just put it on top of any layer and set it to overlay. Adjust opacity if needed.
Feel free to try it out. Its on me.

Hey there,

Nice start on this guy, as said before great simplicity and stylization. But I really think you could push this and make it something really awesome.

I am going to take a stab and say your using marker? I would be more precise in your coloring. I can see where the tunic/armor bleed into eachother and the beard. And in such a stripped down style, you cant afford to fudge stuff like that.

Line work could be pushed way more. You have alot of interesting swirls and detail that should be at different levels. Right now all the lines look like they where done with the same micron/pencil. Which kind of kills the fun of this piece.

Good start, I would like to see it pushed to the next level. :D
