Hey Guys....I have just recently began to learn photography and how to use a dark room. I Love it!!! These are some of the first protraits I took of my friend Mike. I scanned them and I think the scanner doesnt get everything right from the original photo. I had a hard time getting the photo on the screen to look like the photo in my hand. Anyway!...here they are...

i REALLY like #2
but personally i bet a crop where it got rid of the bottom half of the pic and focused in on his face with a bit of the engine in the background would have been excellent. i feel like his hands and dipstick take away from the feeling of the photograph.
keep it up

Nice boke on these, I'm going to hold off on indepth criticism untill I see some more. So lets see more!
PS. @Nathaniel: the words "hands" and "dipstick" should probably not be used in the same sentence...ever :|

hmmm i see what ur saying about cropping and focusing on his face...but im not 100% on that...i kinda like that you see what he is doing in the car but i think id also like the effect of focusing on the face....lets see!...

yeah thats close to what i was thinking. its just personal taste and everyoen is different. personally i wouldnt have his hand in there at all. i think not showign what he is doing gives it a mysterious look and feeling which goes along with his facial expression like he is trying to figure somethign out or is deep in thought. and by not showing exactly what he is doing it leaves the viewer open to imagine whatever they wish.

Who is this dapper fellow with his apparent knowledge of a combustion engine?
Hey it's better than my begining photography, yeah it's posted on here somewhere. I agree with eazym, post more, can't comment to much on what I see.

One big request: Can you please make the images smaller. They don't appear to be huge in download size, but I can't see the whole image for most of them in one screen, I have to scroll (even on a 19" LCD monitor). Also, this will reduce the slight noise that is coming through in the pictures.

You seem to have a good sense of composition already and lighting. Some of these pictures feel a little flat. The first picture of the picnic bench isn't great but the second one is much better.
And the picture of your dad is awesome.
You have an awesome start and should keep up and keep posting!

thanks for the feedback! yea i was surprised how sharp the one of my dad came out because i was having a hard time with lighting and such...i love the way cars come out in black and white (when they are clean) because of the reflections....thats what i am going to work with tomorrow..im having friends over and im goin to take pic of their cars...and them of course! those will be fun to develop i think...
