Some interesting faces. You should make the eyes more expressive. Good work.

Ooooh very nice! The lady with the sunglasses and the masquerade (?) couple both look great, and the last portrait is so soft and peaceful looking... I'm also kinda envious of you because you managed to pull off all those different features in them little portraits - whenever I try that the faces turn out like these weird Ken/Barbie clones. :P
Anyway, good work and keepy uppy!

Nice pics you got here. I would suggest working with some real life things if you can. It looks like you are grabbing things from mags.

Thanks guys for the good words. I really appreciate it.

@liquidjack - you're right, it's definitely a better training for the eye when you draw from life.
But sometimes I don't have the possibility to draw a real model,
then I grab some poses from mags.

This week we started again with drawing sessions at university.
So heres a bunch of it.
Each one not longer than 10 minutes.
Please excuse the poor quality, but I don't have an A3 scanner
(so I photographed them).

Here is a new zombie-like guy. I'm doing some concept on how my new character
could look like. He's for my new project at university.
What do you think?
Is he disgusting and nasty enough?
Give me some hints what I can do to get the ugliest monster/zombie
in the world ;-)

hey buddy :)
cool mix of characters here - want to see more - maybe try to block out major forms and proportions more precisely before rendering those

botho81
March 15th, 2009, 01:47 PM
hey Kristo,
thanks and here's a bunch of new ones. And you are right, I have to draw more from life and first find the right form and shape before rendering to quick.
comments are welcome

Life drawing sessions every Friday evening at the "Städel Night School" in Frankfurt!!
It feels good again to have figure drawing at a regular basis. It is soooo important...but who am I telling this:)
These are some results from the first and second session. Crits welcome!

I like the raw looking pencils.
s60, uglyfuc01, and torment.

[Is it bad to ask to extend for their body?
It might lose the raw energy. It doesn't hurt to try though]

June 9th, 2009, 04:01 PM
Thanks dwardo.
It is not bad to ask..:) I have made bodies of the zombies. but it was some time ago I made them. they are also in this thread. but I think they really don't have the rough energy of the faces

But at the moment I'm more into nice girls again:))
Here is a quickie grabbed from a mag and altered a bit. I like that sometimes.

Originally this piece should be a landscape study. But I thought that something remarkable could be going on...

Post 22, wide enviros are always favourites. A long shot of this scene that lasts
2 minutes won't bother me one bit. As long as I see those dust clouds morphing.

Keep doing these studies mate, and cgtalk.com if you're ever around.
There's a few helpful people in there.

I dig the sketch lines.

is this (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showpost.php?p=2298987&postcount=21) on a public concrete wall? and did you get arrested? :)

Your sketchbook pages (and sketches) are so clean and neat compared to my pages that are creased up the wazoo from too much erasing and shit. Nice. /E

PS. The bad boyz is a nice group shot. 3D modeling is calling you (if you didn't hear it) :).

Great noses!
ha and the attitude in the"devil takes what he wants" one is really nice very sensual.
the biggest thing i would say to work on would be the sketchy feel your renders have, try to make it a little cleaner by making each individual line less visible. Having the individual lines used to make the rendering visisble really hurts the depth in the image
thanks for sharing man!

@dwardo:
cool, you like it. Good to hear that I grabbed your attention for so long.
I have a portfolio at cgtalk, and some works are already over there.

@KristoNovo:
Thanks, and definitely I'll keep you updated:)

@jatherip:
Here we go, here's a sneak peak for Venetica concepts, with more digital chars and creatures. Check out the link below

@sarbro:
Thank you, and this is absolutely no prob. I mean, that's why we're here for! To push each other

@dwardo:
Thanks! no it's not a public wall. just a pencil sketch with photo in the back:)
Your right. It's about time to refresh my zBrush skills:)

@jedininjaman:
Thanks mate. I am also planning to do some matte paintings with a more rendered look and not too sketchy.

Here's sneak preview at what's going on in the Venetica concepts thread.
The Link is at the bottom. Hope you like it.

@mpaquin:
Thanks, good to hear that:)

Here are two portraits done from life at the 'Städel Abendschule' in Frankfurt.
Both are made in about 2 1/2 hours with mechanical pencil. The first is a bit clean. The second has a rougher shading. I think it works better for me.
btw she had crazy hair;)

sarbro
November 23rd, 2009, 05:00 AM
the two portraits are great, especially the first one, a pity that you didn´t draw the hair, but the "not-really-finished-touch" is also interesting

That monkey is hilarious. :P I love hidden fingers man, they're totally uncalled for but funny all the same, lmao. - Louis C.K. (comedian)
talked about flipping a kid (5 y.o.) in a shopping centre just because he looked like a trouble maker. (You might like some of his comedy

Thank you guys!
@dwardo, unfortunately I didn't find the time to do somethin' cool with zBrush. I only played around a bit...

Here's something new:
A pencil drawing that I grabbed from a mag. This was only for practicing, just to train the eye.
The second is a quick concept. It was a lot of fun to do this environment sketch.
I played around with brushes, grain and a film-look. Took me baout 2 hours. Hope you enjoy.

SOoo, let's start with some updates. A messy bunch of mixed stuff from last months or done for work last year.

In order:
-life drawings in downtown Frankfurt
-mixed pencil sketches
-personal matte painting..at the dam
-3 near future environments - IP development for Deck13
-Bob in an individual performance
-interior concept for the adventure game 'Black Sails'
-commissioned work in classical fantasy theme
-3 matte painting environments for hidden object game 'Jade Rousseau'

let me know what you think!

i dont know what to say at this point because my eyes cant believe what they see , are these photos or drawings ?

botho81
September 10th, 2010, 06:36 AM
hey raminafshari,
the last pieces have something like a matte painting approach. I can show you the making of steps. First quick concept, already using photos, but I made the photos work for me. That's important to keep in mind. Then rough 3D modeling with basic textures and finishing/detailing with photos and painting with heavy use of photoshop.

botho81
March 13th, 2011, 08:05 AM
Here is a bunch of artworks I have done at work, when there's a copyright mark in it. But also some personal pieces I have done recently and I wanted to share with you guys. I am posting this stuff in the sketchbook section, because the artworks are totally mixed, from preliminary sketches to finished artworks.
Have fun, and let me know what you think, and what I can do better in the future!

Cheers, Felix

botho81
March 13th, 2011, 08:14 AM
This was a commissioned illustration by a friend of mine. It is ready to print in A1...and yes, I used parts of photos for this one to achieve a mixture between realistic and painted parts :)
It is a mixture between a 69er and 71 Charger R/T

This is my interpretation of the skateboard courier 'YT' from the book Snow Crash. The preliminiary black and white sketch can be seen below.

botho81
March 13th, 2011, 08:25 AM
This is my attempt to make a digital still life as a study. I used a reference photo HERE (http://www.felixhaas.de/images/beer_inthesun_orig.jpg) but of course there was no tracing and no color picking. Otherwise the study is useless. Global illumination was freaking out with the red aluminum buds. I mainly used a simple round brush with soft and hard edge and the lasso tool.

Story: Two special edition buds standing in front of the window in my working room at home. Bought in Las Vegas for 10 bucks each I think. And our cats left many marks of their noses everywhere on the window.

botho81
March 13th, 2011, 08:28 AM
This is a personal mood sketch. For me it is important to stay flexible, versatile and quick in what I'm doing as a concept artist. That's why I don't want to focus too much in one direction, like characters, environments, tech etc...Concept Art / Illustration is already very focused in the game industry. Therefore I want to show my diversity in styles and topics. And I'm working hard to be good in all disciplines HAHA. It took me about 8 hours including the compositional sketches. Hope you like it!

botho81
March 20th, 2011, 01:58 PM
here are some quick character sketches, which I have done recently. with this technique the process almost feels like sculpting and not like drawing lines. have fun

Thank you for this uploads.

Say if one would want to get to your skill level, starting from ground zero and worked hard every day, how much time would that take in years, or how many years you have under your belt?.
I am aware that this is nonsense question but i would be grateful for even nonsense answer.

impressive concepts , i also like the way you have with colors .
