I was just browsing through tinami.com looking at various Japanese artist websites ... and I came upon this one:

Imagine my surprise when I went through his gallery, and saw most of his stuff were copies of some of Frank Frazetta's paintings, with no credit to Frazetta whatsoever.
So, does this guy deserve to get flamed big time?

He's a little close but not worth it. at least all of his stuff isnt a copy. And everyone knows Who Frazetta is anyway, so they can see through it.
have you ever seen the artist Mike? Hoffman that guy doesnt copy frazetta's pieces but does a clone like you wouldnt believe. Would he deserve to get ripped...no not unless he is repainting a piece and taking credit for it.

Um, no. Every one of the Frazetta style pieces is an exact copy.

Wow, I just looked through Hoffman's stuff ... guess it isn't just me when I say that a lot of it looks pretty much ripped from Frazetta's paintings and ideas. Especially that pic of the warrior surrounded by those, uh, near naked ladies. :P
Can Frazetta actually sue him if he wanted to?

What I hate is Hoffman saying that he didn't rip Frazetta but just got that way through the same kind of influences LOL

Probably not. "Style" isn't copyrightable, only individual images. If Hoffman was actually trying to pass his stuff off as Frazetta's that could be considered fraud, but he's all too eager to take credit.
That Japanese guy is another story. Frazetta could nail him in a minute, were he so inclined.

Just checked out Hoffmans stuff... STRAIGHT BULLSH!T. How does one gain pleasure or self fullfillment by being an EXACT clone of someone else. Then he says that line about not copying style, but merely following the ways of the "master" painters of the past. Sickening. He gets no respect from me regardless how good of an artist (or clone) he is.

He claims he's been doing comics and fantasy art since 82, he is definetly not a kid (at least not by his age).

Well, my point was people know who they are copying. Its way too obvious... If they think they are going to buffalo people they are ignorant.
ELWELL: "ALL" implied all his work not just the Frazetta rips...

this guy doesnt really deserve to be called a frazetta clone. he's just a wannabe frazetta clone. if he is really that old then that is just sad.

Even his signature is the same. I will say that he is a good artist no doubt about it...His work looks pretty darn close. To say he is right or wrong, I cant judge, I dont care too much for his work, but even some of my influences show up a bit in my work. And I have seen so many people in comics copy someone else yet everyone kept buying the books. This is a rare case when someone is actually close to being a clone of his influence.
