Here we go on the CC:

1. This looks like it would have been a good picture to start with, but it has been overmanipulated. The iris has lost the clarity it needs to stand out, and the black treatment to the veins just looks weird and blurry. Also, there is a green speck in the background that is really annoying, I'd get rid of that. This said, the eyelashes look really good.

2. This photo looks like it has ben cropped in too close, as the stamen would have gone higher in the photo, and so it gives a feeling of incompleteness (in a weird way). Colours are nice though.

3. Nice colours once again, and the cropping is very effective. Good use of dof, much better than number 2.

4. This is a cool subject, and I think a slightly deeper field would have helped but it is a good photo.

5. I'm immediately reminded of Zorak from space ghost. It's a good pic, probably the best of this set in my view.

Finally, a hint. If people want to comment, they will. If they can't think of anything constructive and the photos don't knock them dead, they won't say much/anything. This is a good thing, it means very little spamming (if only it was like this on other forums :P). Keep posting stuff, and people will help where they think it will be useful. I look forward to seeing more from you.

PS: can you post an original of that eye? I'd love to see how that looked, and also use it as a reference point for the photomanip.

i feel that number 2 is better than number 3 but as i have said in this forum earlier.. everyone has their own eye and vision about pictures and so on.:)
i agree klips to this eye pic, little too much photoshopping.
don't know what to say to number 5.. hmm.. good stuff.:)

nathaniel, have you tried "neat image" program or something else to take the little blur out of the picture 2? i use neat every now and then, it's good to take the blur out but it weakens the colors.

I second morf.
Number 2 is better than 3 because of its cropping... But though I think the cutting is not optimal. The main-element (the tentacles in the rose) are not shown completely and the viewer can't follow them at all.

3 has nice colors but the tentacles are just coming from nowhere. The gradient is imo too strong here. It has the effect on me that the tentacles don't belong to the rest of the flower.
(btw: did you use digital zoom here? The quality is not the best)

4 is damn cool! Only thing to mention is the sharpness again... but that's secondary.

5. Okay nice shoot, but here is the sharpness more important for me. (If you once have seen the eyes from the insects you know what I mean...)

thank you all VERY much for C&C i love it.

4 and 5 were both EXTREMELY difficult shots. they were low light and i didnt have my tripod with me. so i had to be up at iso 400 and tryign to steady my hand sas best i could. and on a side note the eyes of praying mantis (#5) dont have any definition except a single point. they dont have compound eyes like flys do. if thats what norwin was mentioning.

i love the comments on 2 and 3 and completely agree and i think it will help me next photoshoot of flowers.
