Hi guys at ConceptArt.org!
The flowers first: this forum is just great, so many graphic pro's, so many wonderful pictures... *slurp*

In this post I want to show some of my photos and to collect some feedback. In a few months, I have to register for studying at university.
In the moment I'm not sure what direction I want to go, because I'm interested in so many things. That means photography, graphics(paper, digital), 3d modeling, game (programming and design), movie (filming, post-production).
Thats a lot to get into one profession!

Ok, back to topic, these photos are shot with a Minolta DiMAGE F300 (what a great cam, but now it's broken :( ).

They are not reedited with computer, just resized and recompressed (I have a 65k modem *argh*).
(sorry for my english, could be better...)

*Edit:Images removed because of missing files

Please give some feedback!

Greets,
Dorian

hey there, just a quick post, because i'm a little late and need to go soon, so sorry for not being more precise:
i like the furry leaves a lot, nice depht of field ("tiefenschärfe") and the simple black and white works really well with them. only thing that distracts me is your watermark. :)

blades of grass is again very nicely shot, a little too busy for my taste, but a really good experiment.

the tree is nice, too, but the dirt on your lense is quite distracting and the horizon isn't straight. when i liked the silhouette-feel of the others, it creates some problems in this one, because there is no clear distinction between fore-, middle- and background which is a little problematic here to define the shape of the tree...

flower contrast has to be my personal favourite of the set. great shot.

sorry, need to go now, so just one more thing: the misty landscape is awesome! post some more if you can (hope your camera is fine by now) - tschüß!

Well, it was a more or less quickly snapshot out of a car ;)

Aside from some blurry pics, there's good stuff here

Because there is so much stuff I'll give you a generic thing rather than individual crits:

Some of your photos benefit from being blurry. Most of them don't. Spring 06 could have been a lot better if it was in sharp focus rather than blurred, as could diffuse latenight and old car. Swirling trees was the only really good one using blur IMAO.

You have a very good grasp on sunsets, but you could do with more tonal variation in the sky, even if this involves photoshopping on a filter/gradient (shock horror, I know, but that's my view). I guess part of this comes from being spoilt by sunsets in my home town, but I think trying to get a deeper colour using a polarisingfilter or just a wider range could be really good. Best sunset pic for mine is Tree in sunset, this is great.

Apart from this nothing really leaps out at me. You have a good range of subjects (including some really good nature shots like the Rape Blossom) but nothing that made me stop and go OMIGODZORZ.

Please don't take these comments as insults, but as constructive criticism. You obviously have a lot of skill with a camera, now you need to hone your talents with lots of practice. Best thing to do? Keep snapping them, and keep posting here. I look forward to seeing more from you. Any questions of me, please ask.

well, most if the blurry photos are not sharp, because of no tripod for my camera and the long exposure time (e.g " Protection or Detention?")

I think trying to get a deeper colour using a polarisingfilter or just a wider range could be really good.
The thing is, I have just a digicam without single-lens reflex and changeable objectives.
And What do you mean with a wider range?

Dorian, please make a better selection... I mean there are some pictures which are....... really bad. And I don't want to search all the good photos ;) (...yes, there are good photos though! ;) )

Thanks for critique...... but what fotos are ".... really bad" ? Please tell me, so I can ban them ;)

by a wider range I mean the colours that you get from a sunset. It starts off with the whole sky light, and progressively gets darker and more orange/purple. In my view the best ones capture a spectrum from still light to getting quite dark all in the same picture, and while you have some light one and some dark ones there aren't any that really cover a wide range from the light blue/yellow through to the dark purple/oranges. Tree in sunset comes close, but is horrendously noisy up the top.

Photos that are "...really bad" are in my view:
beeing crazy
spring 06 (as I said, ruined by the unnecessary blur)
Abstract flash
Diffuse Latenight
moving morning
a tree
All of these suffer from something, ranging from blur to lack of contrast to just being uninteresting. Get someone else to check these before you do delete them if it's a bastard to reload them, but that's my selection.

I think you need a flash....a good one too. It seems like you are taking adjusting for the light and your subjects are moving then you get blur. You could shoot at a faster shutter speed and then brightn the photos up in photoshop but I recommend a good flash.

This is based off of the photos in your link. I do think that alot of your photos are great and very artistic. hash out the technical stuff and the'll be even better.

Here I have some newer photos, which I shot in Rome, in Germany at the Innerste and in Switzerland.
Now I have a new camera, a Nikon D70s, which is really great and its fun to take photos with it.
Now I want to try to use my analog slr Minolta X-700 and get used to it.

Please comment and criticise.

sincerely,
Dorian

What do you think about these photos? I know, some are just for documentation.
