'Transformers' rolling out in live-action pic
June 11, 2003
"The Transformers" -- the ever-morphing Hasbro toy line introduced in the mid-1980s that has gone on to spawn comic books, multiple television series and an animated feature -- are being prepped to change shape again, this time into stars of the big screen. Angry Films topper Don Murphy (whose next film is "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen") and writer-producer Tom DeSanto ("X-Men" and "X2: X-Men United") have teamed to produce a feature-length, live-action movie based on the popular brand. The duo are expected to shop the project to studios shortly, and DeSanto said they have already received interest from a handful of directors hoping to get involved in the project. DeSanto is currently working on a story treatment for the project before he and Murphy hire a screenwriter to adapt it for the big screen.

First off It needs to be set and the 80's as the original story with the original crew.... also the original Opitmus voice...
if not ...the heck with them.
I'm touchy about my Transformers!
The worst thing that could happen would be.... ARMADA THE MOVIE!!!
dear god ... that would be the only true evil. :evilbat:

my sentaments exactally.
i happened to catch an eppisode of beast wars once and for some reason or another they travled back in time to when the origional Arc with the OG transformers on it crashed on earth. somehow time was frozen and they were walking around the arc past all of these monolithic transformers frozen like statues,, they walked past soundwave and a few others and were ever climbing around on optimus. and it was streight up 3D!
it litterally brought a tear to my eye.
i hope this movie doesnt eat a dick.
the origional transformers movie kicked ass.
YOU GOT THE TOUCH!
YOU GOT THE POWER!
YAH!!

this is going to be:
1) AMAZING
2) HORRIBLE
3) So close to being something good...aka (the hulk)
It seems like these companys are just so close to perfecting things and they screw it up somehow... hulk... it's SO AWESOME! But... so cartoony and semi weird looking... Matrix 2's cg characters... they looked so fooney but SO close to being good.. I just have a feeling this is going to turn out the same way...
can you actually picture robots speaking in sync? How do you pull that off without it looking so bad...
*rambles on...*

:iws: now there's an elaborate and well thought of reply. :D
Anyways, since this has been brought back up, I'm wondering how a full feature movie would be like IF it would have the same quality as not-so-old Japanese Nike ad. Remember the shoe that transforms into a bot and leaps off to the ground ?

personally, I expect that this movie will be pretty good. I mean, they'll never please all the hardcore fans, but I don't think they'll do something stupid and redesign the 'bots, or create/introduce new crappy characters (Beast Wars anyone?). Although, I would guess we should expect some bastardization of the characters (ie: modern cars).
Davi...Matrix 2's cg characters... they looked so fooney but SO close to being good
What do you mean? How were they “SO close to being good”? In my opinion, they were excellent (years beyond Blade 2, or anything else really), and used reservedly (seems conservative use of cg-live combinations is always best: take bilbo's "angry face" when he tries to grab the ring off of frodo in LOTR). What was “fooney” about them?

3; aside from this, they're also making AKIRA into a live action movie i heard...but I don't care much about this since I haven't seen much of the transformers.

Soupface, no offense, but are you BLIND ;-) ? I have to go with Davi.
The CG in Matrix was a lot worse than in LOTR. Because they set much higher goals. LOTR used it for creatures, Matrix used it for people in action scenes. That's a high goal, and they almost made it. But not quite.
Also their film is much cleaner most of the time than LOTR (less gritty and dark, except in the tunnels of the real world) and that makes it even more difficult to get right. They had to do it in daylight, even harder. In the tunnels, the sentinels are CGI too and they don;t bother me. The scenes in the matrix do.
Oh well, in a couple of years we won't be able to see the difference anymore. But now it's off to my eyes. Lots of people didn't see it though (?! what's up with them!)
The freeway scenes are really good though.
Robert de Niro for Optimus Prime! No wait, Samuel L Jackson!

haha thats true, the faces and clothing looked like clay.
I'm not quite sure, but once I saw this iron bar slipping out of keanu reeve's hand.
the LOTR-team just took more time for their project.
I hope they take a bit more unknown actors... for example, Benicio del Toro as Optimus Prime..

(samuel l. jackson would also be nice :D)

The "Vengeance is the Lord!" speech from pulp fiction while being a fifteen meters tall robot would do nicely. ;-)
I agree Davi, the park scene is just not right. It's not only the models though, it's also the motion. All the camera speed changes make it strange anyway but the part where he runs over Smith's heads is just ... weird. Not sure if that's all CG though And the shot where Keanu is wielding the bar around full speed is also physically unfeasible i think.
When he flies out of the burning building in the end is also an obvious one. As is the earlier superman scene. Playdoh.
I'd like a list of where all the CG is in the movie so i can check if i spotted them all ;-)
I still think they took a hard problem though, doing action in daylight with so much movement and different actors. In the freeway scenes it's much less obvious.
Oh well. Too much off-topic. Sorry.

The new movie will suck compared to the old one because:
A. Orson Welles is dead.
B. It will not feature "Dare to be Stupid" by Weird Al Yankovic.
