Hey everyone. Here are a few mech designs I've recently finished for a project I'm working on for ADVfilms. My fellow
co-worker, Sedone, painted up the police car.
This is the Imperial Hover Tank

Nice hovertank sketch. On the car, the front wheelbase seems skewed too much toward the viewer. I do like the aggressive thrust towards the front grill. They both look killer!
Why is noone commenting on this stuff? I think it's great to see actual film/game work from production...
Hmm...Emaciated Barbies or Vehicle Sketches???

jmascho,
About the cars front wheels, when I finished this drawing I thought something was kind of off. I wasn't sure if the wheels were really off, or if they were right and it is just the angle I presesnted this in. Looking at it now, if I had to redraw it, I know what I would do differently to make the wheels and anything else on it more precise. I think the wheels are a little too skewed too. Thanks for the crit.
I'm glad you guys like the work.

Good to see you posting stuff, Chris. The only other work I've seen of yours was your Megaman marker rendering.
I like the hovertank a lot, but I feel like some of the forms could use a little beefing up. Some of the panels and bits that hang off the front look mighty thin. I'd just prefer to see a little more mass and maybe some radiuses on the edges to tie it in more to the nice curves in the overall form. Excellent surface detail.
The police car reminds me very much of the spinners from 'Blade Runner'. As mentioned before, there's some weirdness in the front and the grill. I think the ellipses on the headlights are throwing me off a bit. The light bar on the roof of the car seems to be receding into perspective a bit too much as well--it looks a bit skewed. Nice work on the tire treads, and I really like all the detail in the grill area.

hello mr. anderson...
very nice indeed! I like the tank more than the car. any chance of getting up a coloured tank aswell? I am astonished how the car turned out by colouring it more like a police car. I figured more somethign like the halo buggy.

It's cool to get some specific crits on the work on how to make the mechs better. I got some ideas on what I would do to make the Tank design more beefed up. I'm glad you like the surface detail, but after getting a crit about it at work I realize that I could have had some of the surface detail show off the form of the tank more so than I orginally have. The next mech design that I do is definitly going to destroy this one now that I have more knowledge about making better designs.
The copcar was indeed influenced by Sid Mead, who designed the mechs for Bladerunner. I see now that the reason why the car looks a bit skewed in places is cause there were mistakes I didn't catch during the technique I was using. I sketched it pretty small on paper, tighten it up little, made the image much larger, and corrected the perspective a little, and added more detail, tighten it to finish, etc. But I didn't realize that things were skewed until I was halfway finished. So, I see I have to be more focused on making sure things look correct in the small picture stage before taking it to final.

hey chris,
great work! i like how clean and precise your work is. but i only have one complaint.....the tank reminds me of the tanks from star wars episode one. maybe i'm wrong *shrug*
the car is really "cutting edge" and has that cyber punk look that i like. also give kudos to your colour guy.
keep it up ... solid stuff. Now if only I could produce solid work too. :)

I really dig them, but the tank has nearly too much of the SW:Episode 1 tanks, imho.

Hate to hijack your thread like this, Chris.:rambo:
Here are some more concepts from the Mutineers' Moon project. Chris did the watch, I did the van, our buddy Ted did the restaurant, and the city sketch was a collaboration between Ted and me.
