Hello,

After Montreal i had to get one.. and.. while i tried 3 dealers in 2 countries... i manage to get one... at twice the US price (shame on you waccom for having 2 prices for the same item)
The corel guys maight remember our talks at the worksop (montreal and the previous ones :D)
i'll stick to the art pen thing since.. now that i have it... i want to put it to good use.
So.. for the future.. my little wish list:

1 - the cursor icon (showing the shape of the brush) should rotate with the pen - so that i know how my stroke is going to be. (i guess you are still working on this since the size of the icon and the size of the brush was problematic.. also.. if that... size/opacity in a single click and drag (x/y axys) is to be implemented (a la DeepPaint) the cursor icon should be.. re-written (i hate that word too)

2 - tilt and rotation link - this one is tricky - the ideea is... the size of the brush to be modified with the tilt - meaning - if i put only the top tip of my art pen on the tablet to have a fine line.. no mater the rotation. If i tilt the pen until the whole width of my tip touches the tablet .. the size grows... just like using a marker.. or something like that.
This way i could have size on this kind of "limited tilt" combined with rotation... and opacity on pressure.
one of the art pen brushed has size on rotation only - great start but combined with tilt will rock.
also. i think that the SIZE i'm talking.. could be the max size - and i could have pressure to change from min to max size .. yet the max size can grow with the tilt/rotation
i hope i'm not too confuzing.

3 - add rotation to the rake

anyway.. i only used this for one hour... :^^:

I second these suggestions.

Though it wouldn't be possible to do this with the existing Intuos' and Cintiques, these would be wonderful features to have in the next version of tablets.

So you want to controll:
opacity with pressure
size with tilt
angle with rotation

You can do this with a normal intuos pen (except for angle which can be controlled with bearing). I'm pretty sure it will work with the art pen as well.
You have to make the brushes yourself though. But I think its not that difficult.

I know, I have one. I was referring to adding more features to the next release of the intuos... 4 :P

Zaknafain - I think what Oblio is referring to is having two pressure sensors in the pen. One to pick up pressure from the top of the tip and the other on the bottom. Sure you could mimic this sort of thing with a custom brush, but the results wouldn't be a nice as having multiple pressure points. Correct me if I'm wrong Oblio.

yeah.. that would be a great feature indeed.

However I'm quite satisfied with what it can do already.

romance: it's not a tablet issue - it's all software. However what Zaknafain is saying can be done on a next pen.
The problem is to manage to read 2 inputs in the same time.
The Art pen has 2 coils and as you know the tip has 2 "tails" - all they need to do is to make 2 tips of the same size (now the square tip is longer in one side) and to read both the inputs.
For now... WindowsXP and DirectX is mixing all th einputs into one (see what happens if you plug 2 mouses and they fight over the cursor)
Ther eis a way to hack it.. but i think that all the software for now is using the windows cursor as input.

what i was talkig about:

example: you hold the art pen completely vertical (90 deg with the tablet) only the longer part of the tip (we'll call it the north side of the tip) will reach the tablet.
If i would have a marker with that tip in the same position - i could move it in all xy direction and the line will be THIN becouse not the whole surface is touching the paper.
I can rotate it.. it ill make a small dot and that's it.

let's rotate the pen to have the longest part of the tip on the north (facing the upper side of tablet) and the short part on the bottom towards the the bottom side of the tablet.
I can tilt the pen until the short side of the tip reaches the tablet.
If i move up/down.. i should get a thin line yet if i move left right i should get a wide line.
This think is happening now .. no matter of the tilt.
argh.. i'll make a small drawing.. brb
